Chapter 5
They met everyone at the cinemas and had an enjoyable day at the movies. After it was over they all went to their favorite Mexican restaurant, Cassy's, and ate dinner. When finished, they proceeded back to Rae's and Christina's.

"My stomach hurts so bad, why did you guys make me eat that shit," complained Joey.

"Oh poor baby. I'm gonna take him home before he becomes more of a pain," Katie said grabbing a hold of his arm.

"I guess that means I'm leaving. Bye everyone."

"Bye Joe. Bye Katie."

"Thank you Katie," Chris shouted to her as she closed the front door. There was a faint "shut the hell up" from Joey.

"I'm gonna call it a night too," Lance commented.

"Lance, I have a strange feeling Joey and Katie weren't calling it a night," J.C. added.

"Eww, mental picture of Joey," Tyler said.

"Yes, mental picture of Katie," Chris added.

"Chris!" everyone shouted.

"I'm kidding."

"We know," Justin said.

"Bye guys," Lance said laughing.

"Bye."

"Hey you guys, anyone up for a little swim?" J.C. asked.

"I am," Christina said.

"Me too, it's hot," Rae added.

"Well, you can count me in," Justin said giving Rae a seductive smile.

"Eww," Chris said noticing Justin's smile.

"Ouch," Chris expressed getting punched in the arm by Justin.

"Let me guess, you were kidding?" asked Justin.

"No, I was serious that time."

Justin raised his arm again to give him another hit.

"Not," Chris quickly responded to Justin's arm.

"That's what I thought."

"Yeah, you're so tough now," Chris said in a deep voice mocking Justin.

Justin was quick to wrap his arm around Chris's neck putting him in a head lock.

"Justin! I was kidding. You know me."

"I know, I'm kidding to. Joking can be so much fun."

Chris broke free and ran to other side of the room.

"Hey guys, I'm gonna go before I get killed. Rae, call me tomorrow after you get back."

"Okay. Bye Chris."

He ran out the front door looking behind him every few steps to make sure Justin wasn't behind him.

"Wuss," Justin ridiculed.

"Shut up Justin," Rae said hitting his abs.

"Hey, don't make me hurt you."

"Ahh, I'm so scared."

Justin started to chase Rae as she screamed and ran up the stairs locking her door.

"I'm gonna go get my suit on," Christina told J.C. and Tyler.

"Okay," J.C. said.

As she walked away J.C. stared at her leaving the room.

"J.C."

He stared at the blank air ignoring Tyler calling his name.

"J.C.!"

"What?"

"Dude, snap out of it."

"Sorry, are you gonna stay and swim?"

"Nah, I gotta get home. Heather should be calling me."

"Man, she's got you so whipped."

"Whatever."

"T, she's in another state and you can't go out in fear she might call you and you won't be there and then she'll yell at you because she thinks you're out with another girl."

"No, I just want to talk to her."

"Okay, whatever. See ya tomorrow."

"Bye. Tell everyone I said bye."

"Okay."

J.C. went out to his car grabbing his suit from the trunk. He went into the bathroom and changed. Rae came out with her bikini on wrapped in a towel. Justin waited by her door so he could get a suit he left over there.

"All yours," she said walking past Justin.

"Thank you," he said as he walked into the room.

He quickly changed and met everyone outside.

"These hot summer nights are killing me," J.C. said sticking his feet into the pool.

"Tell me about," agreed Christina. She was quick to jump into the pool splashing J.C. entirely.

"That's it," J.C. said jumping in after her.

She quickly swam away as he grabbed her feet and dunked her under.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry," she said in hope of him letting go of her feet.

Rae and Justin stood by the side of the pool watching them mess around in the pool.

"They are so flirting with each other," Justin said to Rae.

"I think it's cute."

"I'm sure you do."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"Nothing," Justin answered with a smile.

"Hey, how about you take off your towel and get in," Justin suggested still smiling.

"How about you take your shirt off and let me push you in?"

"I knew it, you can't wait to see my body."

"No, I just don't want your shirt to get wet, but I guess it doesn't matter," Rae said placing her hands on his back and pushing him forwards. Trying to keep his balance, he grabbed a hold of Rae's arm causing both of them to fall in.

"Justin!" Rae screamed as she unwrapped the soaking wet towel off of her body and started to hit Justin with it.

"Stop, you tried to push me in first. I was just trying to save my shirt," he said trying to swim away from Rae and pulling off his wet shirt at the same time.

J.C. and Christina sat on the steps just watching Justin and Rae fool around as they laughed.

"They are the worst when you get them in a pool," J.C. commented.

"I know. They flirt so bad and they don't even know it," Christina added.

Rae swam over to the steps where J.C. and Christina were sitting and weaved through them stepping out of the pool. Justin quickly followed splashing everyone in his path.

"Justin, it's cool when you splash Rae, but when you get me it's not funny anymore," J.C. said standing up. Justin stopped and turned to swim the other way knowing who was hot on his heels. J.C. grabbed Justin's ankles and pulled him towards himself. He then placed his hand on top of Justin's head and pushed Justin under. Letting him back up for a second of air, he quickly pushed him back under.
"Stop," Justin yelled trying to gain control of the situation. J.C. let go and jumped out of the side. Justin wiped the water off of his face and the curls that dangled on his forehead. He looked over to see Rae and Christina in hysterics. He also noticed Rae was standing in her bikini and began to observe every inch of her body. J.C. noticed where his eyes had led to and jumped back in the pool to break his stare. Justin swam to the stairs and got out to grab a towel. While drying himself, Rae came over to him and slapped his butt.

"Looks like your not the only one who doesn't like to be splashed," Rae said smiling.

"If you get to slap my ass, then I get to slap yours. It's only fair," Justin said.

"No, you would be disgusted."

"I assure you, that wouldn't disgust me," Justin said trying to catch a peek of her backside.

Rae grabbed his face only letting him look into her eyes.

"Maybe another time," she said letting go and sitting down in the chair.

"Why did you sit down?" Justin asked disappointed.

Rae laughed at Justin's face and pulled him down on her lap, tickling his sides.

"You better stop. Your gonna get me all worked up."

"I probably don't want to do that do I," Rae said stopping.

Justin stood up, taking off his towel and reached out for Rae's hand.

"Come on."

"I'm not about to let you throw me in again," Rae said shaking her head in protest.

"I'm not gonna throw you in. I'm gonna help you out of the chair."

"That's okay," Rae said standing up and walking over to Christina on the stairs.

"I rather get in safely."

"Girl you look good, won't you back that azz up," Justin sang while jumping in.

Rae stood on the stairs burning her eyes into Justin.

"What?" questioned Justin innocently.
Rae ignored him walking further into the water and staying by the side. They continued to swim for a while and after getting tired they all got out and decided to call it a night.

"Rae, you better call me tomorrow after you get back from the doctor's. I wanna know how everything went."

"You know I will Justin. Bye."

"Bye babe," Justin said reaching over and giving her a hug.

"Bye Christina, bye J.C."

"Bye Justin," the two replied.

Justin walked out the door and got in his car.

"Well, I should probably get going. You guys look tired," J.C. said.

"Yeah, a little. Bye J.C.," Rae said waving and heading upstairs to her room.

"Bye."

J.C. stood there for a second looking at Christina.

"I had a really good time today," he said looking deeply into her eyes.

"Yeah, so did I."

"Well, I guess I'll see you later."

"Yeah."

"Bye."

"Bye J.C."

He walked out the door and Christina locked everything up. Before going to bed she knocked on Rae's door.

"Come in."

"Hey, I just wanted to say goodnight and wish you luck for tomorrow."

"Thanks, I'll need it."

"Your gonna be fine Rae."

"Yeah, I hope so."

"You will, but I'll let you get to bed. Goodnight," Christina said turning around and walking towards the door.

"Wait."

"Yeah."

"Thank you for being here for me. I really appreciate it."

"It's no problem girl. You're my best friend and I will always be here for you."

"I know and that's why I'm thanking you."

"Okay, well, you're welcome."

The two laughed.

"Goodnight Tina."

"Night Rae."

Christina turned Rae's light out and continued on to her room and went to sleep.

Chapter 6
The next morning Rae got up early and went over to the hospital. When she arrived she turned off the car and just sat in the car. Exhaling deeply, she repeated to herself, "everything is going to be fine." She opened the car door and slowly made her way into the building.

"Hi, I'm here for some x-rays, where would I go?" Rae asked.

"Do you know what doctor it is?"

"Oh yeah, I just go to him?"

"Yes."

"Okay, it's Dr. Taylor."

"All right, you can go ahead and go up, I'll tell him you're on your way up there."

"Okay, thanks."
Rae walked towards the elevator doors and waited for them to reach her level. When reaching the ground the doors swung open. She walked onto them slowly and pressed the button for floor number four. 'Please God, let me be okay' she thought to herself squeezing the sides of her pants. The doors opened when reaching floor four and she walked out. She saw the door to Dr. Taylor's office was open so she walked in to see Dr. Taylor on the phone. He lifted his pointed finger to let her know it would be just a second. Moments later he hung up the phone.

"Well, hello Rae, how are you feeling today? Better I hope."

"Yeah, a little, still a little nervous."

"Totally understandable, but I want to assure you, everything is gonna be just fine, okay?"

"Okay."

"Good, so why don't you follow me. I wanna get you into one of those robe things your mom always loved wearing."

"Ha. I remember she used to complain for hours about how uncomfortable they were."

"Well, hospitals aren't really known for the quality of there clothes."

"Yeah."

"Okay just go into there and get changed then meet me back right here and I will take you down to x-ray," he said pointing into a small closet.

"Okay."

Rae walked into the closet and changed into the robe. She walked out and met up with Dr. Taylor and he took her down to floor two.

"Have you called your mom and told her yet?" Dr. Taylor asked.

"No, I didn't want to worry her until I know for sure what's going on. You know how she gets."

"Yeah, that was probably a good idea, but I do want you to call her as soon as we do find out."

"Oh yes definitely."

"Okay, I need you to lie down right here on your stomach so we can get some x-rays of your back," he said pointing out to her where she needed to lay.

"Okay," Rae said lying down.

"This is gonna take a while, so just get comfortable. You can even doze off if you'd like."

"Yeah, okay."

After about thirty minutes of x-rays and repositioning the cameras, it was over.

"All right, good. We need to do one more thing though. I'm gonna have a nurse come and take some tissue from the area on your back so we have a little more to look at."

"Okay."

"I'm not gonna lie to you, it's gonna hurt."

"I know. Needle, spine, I already put the two together, but I rather find out what this is so lets get it over with."

"Good attitude Rae, I like to hear that."

Rae gave him a half smile. She had no idea why she just said that. She was terrified of needles and the fact she acted so calm was surprising. After the nurse took the tissue Rae let out a deep breath. The testing portion was over.

"Rae, I'm gonna give you a call tonight about what is going to happen. Then I want you to call your mother and tell her what's up to. She's probably gonna want to make a short visit down here."

"Okay."

"And that's all. You can go ahead and get changed back into your clothes. Thanks for being a good sport. You're really hangin in there."

"Thanks, talk to you tonight."

"Yeah, make sure your there. It will be around eight."

"Okay, bye."

"Bye."

Rae changed her clothes and continued downstairs to leave.

Chapter 7
When entering the lobby for the hospital she saw Justin and his mom waiting by the wall.

"Oh Rae," Lynn said running up to her giving her a huge hug.

"Are you okay sweetie? How come you didn't call me?"

"I'm fine Lynn, and I didn't want to worry you. You have enough of that."

"Don't be crazy. I want you to call me when things like this happen, that's what I'm here for. I don't like getting calls from my son that my little girl is in the hospital being tested for a tumor. That scares me."

"I'm sorry. I was gonna call you after I found out what was wrong."

"Well, your mother is a little upset to."

"Oh no, you didn't,"

"Yes, I did. I can't believe you didn't call her. She needs to know these things Rae."

"I know but now she is probably going crazy and nothing might even be wrong with me."

"Well, she's on her way out here as we speak. She took the first flight she could catch."

"Oh goodness. Justin!"

"What did I do?"

"Why did you have to worry everyone."

"Rae, because I was worried. I'm not letting you go through this alone."

Rae rested her head back and breathed deeply.

"I'm sorry. I just hate when everyone gives all of there attention to me when there are better things to worry about."

"Rae, you better stop talking like that, now. This is a big matter and we are going to be here for you. Now let's go get some ice cream, and no buts about it, understand?" Lynn said sternly.

"Okay," Rae said astonished by Lynn's change of attitude.

The three left the hospital and met at their favorite ice cream shop, Brusters.

"I'll take a mint chocolate chip sundae with no nuts, please," Rae asked the server.

"Um, I'm gonna go with the chocolate chip cookie dough in a waffle cone," Justin said handing the server his menu.

"And for you mam?" asked the server.

"Oh, I just want some vanilla yogurt in a cup, please."

"Okay, that'll be right up."

"So, Rae what happened at the hospital today, what did they say?" asked Lynn while adjusting her sunglasses.

"Well, they took some x-rays and some tissue from the lump and their gonna call me at eight tonight with what's wrong."

"Ouch," Justin said.

"Aww, my poor little girl. How do you feel?"

"I feel fine."

Lynn grabbed Rae's hands.

"You're a strong girl."

Rae looked back at Lynn and smiled.

"Yes, ice cream time," Justin said licking his lips.

"Here's your sundae, and your cone, and your cup. Enjoy!"

"I love me some ice cream," Justin said licking his ice cream and getting it all over his lips.

"Justin, use your napkin," Lynn said pushing his napkin towards him.

He turned to Rae and gave her a big kiss on her cheek leaving the ice cream smudged on her face.

"Eww!" she exclaimed rubbing it off.

"You know you like it," Justin said continuing to lick his ice cream.

Rae looked over to Justin without saying a word and turned back to finish her ice cream.

He started to laugh knowing she was disgusted.

"You think it's funny," Rae said as she took a spoonful of her sundae and dumped it into his hair.

"Yeah, who's laughing now?"

"Rae, you better get that out of my hair right now," Justin insisted as his smile turned to a frown.

"No, you told me to never touch your hair, remember. 'When you touch it, the curls go out of place,'" Rae said mimicking Justin.

Justin stood up and proceeded towards the bath room.

"I think you ticked him off," Lynn said laughing.

"I know."

"When it comes to his hair it's no longer a joke," Lynn said still laughing.

Rae began to laugh thinking about all the funny times she messed with his hair and ticking him off.

"You guys are too cute," Lynn said.

"Uh," Rae said looking confused at Lynn.

"What? Don't look at me like that. You guys are so cute together."

"Lynn, you are talking about me and Justin."

"I know what I'm talking about. Don't think I don't recognize how much you guys flirt. I also notice how much he loves you."

"Like a friend."

"No, more than a friend. When he called me today he was so worried. There's something more than a friendship there. You just need to realize it. I think you're too afraid to see how much you love him more than a friend."

"No, I don't think so."

"Okay, but don't say I didn't tell you."

"Lynn, this doesn't sound like you."

"Yes it does,"

"Shh, he's coming," Rae said cutting her off.

Justin sat down unsmilingly. Rae looked at him with a smile.

"Don't look at me like that, I'm pissed at you," Justin said folding his arms.

"Aww, poor baby can dish it out but can't take it in."

"Shut up."

"Justin, don't talk to her like that."

Rae laughed at Justin at the fact he got yelled at.

"And Rae don't egg him on, you'll only make it worse."

"Ha to you too," Justin said in her face.

Rae started to tickle Justin's stomach knowing he hated to be tickled there.

"Stop!"

"No, not until you apologize for getting ice cream on my face."

"Well, I'm not apologizing until you apologize first."

"Okay you big baby I'm sorry for putting ice cream in your hair. Happy?"

Justin sat silently as Rae began to tickle him again.

"Okay, okay, stop, I'm sorry."

"Thank you."

The three continued to finish their ice cream and converse.
