Prom: Is It Really Worth It?

Vote Billy the Bullet for Prom King!!!

With prom tickets doubling in cost this year, many students are wondering if it’s really worth the money. Last years tickets were $25 per person, with this year’s being $50 for a single, $100 for a couple. Add in the dress cost and tux rental, and you’re looking at well over $200. And that’s being generous.

The administration claims that the reason for this is because a meal is now included. However, another local school is having their prom at the same place, with the same food, for only $25 per ticket….so how is it that the meal costs more for us than them? I’m now very confused…….Anyways, most students are more upset about the fact that dinner is included than the overall ticket price. A lot of students have said that dinner was the most fun part of the night for them. And even if you choose not to eat at the dance, you still have to pay the same amount as everybody else.

Hold on……..so now you don’t even have a choice about where you want to eat…..or even really what you’re getting to eat., considering that there’s only 2 entrees, ham or vegetable lasagna. There are side dishes of new potatoes (new potatoes? Are they any different from old potatoes?), corn, a garden salad, rolls, and pasta salad. Not a huge selection.  So you may wind up paying for a dinner that you don’t really want. That seems sensible (note the sarcasm). Dinner is to be served at 6:30 sharp, and there’s no guarantee that you’ll get food if you come later.  When the administration was approached about the idea of 2 different tickets, one for those who want the dinner included, and another for those who don’t, the idea was denied for some reason.

Quite frankly, I really don’t support prom this year, considering that the administration seems to be forcing an idea on us to get more money.  However, there’s a very easy solution. The administration could allow 2 different tickets: one for those who want to eat there, and another (reduced) ticket for those who don’t. Barring that, there’s another way. Go out to dinner, and then go crash prom. It’s at InPlay…..how hard can it be to get in? Just walk in and dance, ticket or no.
