New Orleans, located on the Mississippi River about ninety miles north of the Gulf of Mexico, is an important seaport with a growing cruise vessel activity currently serving some 500,000 cruise passengers annually. The cruise terminals are very near the center of the city and the well-known attractions of the city make it an enticing cruise port. Currently, the city is celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase.
