My maternal gdmother was Léa Abusch Bat Landau Halevy. Her father was Baruch Landau Halevy.He was born 1848-1849 in Poland, perhaps in Tarnow or suburbs. His wife was Chaidle Templer,sister of Rav Bernhardt Templer. The name of Baruch's father is perhaps Feivush. I even heard that we were related to Rab Yeheskel Landau. I would like to investigate if a member of my family - through marriage - may be a possible relative to the Noda B'Yehudah. Would you be able to tell me if there could be any possible family relation of her to Rabbi Yechezkel Landau?

Her name was Brachah Leah bas Yisroel Eliezer Ha-Cohen Landau [That she is from Cohen is only provided from a grandchild of hers]. She was born in Plotsk, Poland in 1846 and she died in New York in 1936. She married Yitzhak Laybe Ha-Levy Tachna on January 28, 1864 in his native town of Mlawa, Poland. They immigrated to the United States in the 1880's.

I Have the Following Information: R. Eleazar Landau (1778-1831) was married twice (Hinde and Rwele). His son's included R.Judah Leib Landau and R. Menachem Mendel Landau (1809-1880). R. Menachem Mendel Landau married Liba Herman. They had a son R. Nachum Landau Herman (1858-1932). He was my great-grandfather.

Under Ancestry World Tree for Katzenellenbogen, Entry 29, JOEL KATZENELLENBOGEN is listed as Joel Ashkenazi Katzenellenbogen, married to a Female (name not given) K., daughter of Samuel Judah K. In that case, it was the daughter of Samuel Judah K. (sister of Saul Wahl) who was my Katzenellenbogen ancestor. I have read elsewhere that it was common for men who married female members of the K. family to adopt the K. surname as their own. Joel was the father (and the female K. the mother) of Rabbi Abraham (Joseph Jacob) ben Joel Katzenellenbogen, born 1549, rabbi of Lemberg, died 1637. His grandson was Ezekiel, rabbi of Altona, and was followed by four generations of rabbis, including Saul ben Joseph K., rabbi of Vilna, (1770-1825), "a man of ascetic habits who ruined his health by much fasting." The Jewish Encyclopedia. Rabbi Saul was the grandfather of my grandmother Glika K.

I Have the Following Information: Rabbi Meir ben Isaac K. was the father of Samuel Judah K. who in turn was the father of Saul Wahl. My family is descended from Joel Katzenellenbogen, son of Rabbi Meir and the brother of Samuel Judah and the uncle of Saul Wahl.
Do you have interest in the Katzenellenbogen lineage descended from Joel K? I think I have it for eleven generations including five rabbis.

I Have the Following Information: hello - i replied to the recent e-mail from the Finbergs in Israel but neglected to copy my reply to each of you. Since the Finbergs' e-mail was addressed to you as well, i assume that you are also interested in locating
Dillers from Poland.

My grandfather was David Diller. He had five children including my father Joseph Diller. He brought his family to America around 1913 and settled in San Francisco where his brother Beryl Diller had emigrated about the turn of the century. Beryl and David had siblings who did not come to America, including a brother Lammelle Diller. You will see a reference to a Lamel Diller in the Finbergs' e-mail. It would be exciting if it turned out that these two were one and the same person. My father's family was from a small
town in southeastern Poland, Brzozow (in Yiddish Brshev). The town was in the Lvov (Lemberg) region governed before WWI by Austro Hungary. Brshev is about 45km almost due west of Lvov (now in the Ukraine and known as Lviv).

My name is Ela Finberg.I am from Israel.I m trying to get some information about Diller family from Poland. My grandfather Mordekhai Birfas (ben Melekh) is 84 years old .He was born in Yavernik russki little shtetl near Przemishl in Poland.(near Lviv). He spent 6 years in the soviet army.His family was totally destroyed in the hollocaust.He stayed in Russia after the war and never came back to his village.We speak about 5 sisters (Malka Hana Sheindl Zisl Sara) Father Melekh Birfas (ben David) and the mother Etl Birfas (bat Lemel) Diler before the wedding.
The situation is that my granny stayed alone in the world.He knows for sure that Iosef Diller his mothers brother came to USA in the beginning of the century.So we are looking for him and for some one of his relatievs.
I understand that too much jews were killed in Shoa but may be someone from Diller and Birfas family is still alive.
Mordekhai Birfas spent all of his life in the understanding that nobody is alive but he lived in Soviet Union .It was a cold war. I'll be happy to bring him this present.Some relative. You try to get some information about Dillers so maybe you can help.I know that Diller Iosef lived in Brooklin.

Comments: There are several names on this family tree that also appear in my family tree and we are unable to trace back before 1871. Some of the names are Elke, Frieda, Tova/Taube, Eleazor/Leazor/Leiser. The birth of my zadie Godel Brandes appears on Jewishgen for 1874 in Tarnopol. He was born to Taube Tonenbaum and Godel Brandes. Godel married Frieda Weintraub. I don't know anything about Taube Tonenbaum or Leiser Brandes, my great grandparents, their families, etc.

I Wish To Be Contacted Regarding: Can you help me. At the turn of the last century on the occasion of my great great great grandmother's 95 birthday, a family member wrote a Staumbaum and also collected documents and information about the family. These have been kept by members of the family in the early 1970's information was documentation.

My great great great grandmother was Eva Bindeles who married Moshe Jahoda. In
documentation it states:
The information I have is that Eva Jahoda, nee Biudeles, was born on April
10, 1806 in Leipnik, Mahren, as the second daughter of Isaisas and Katharine
Bindeles (which spelling is right) (nee Gruenbaum). Her fther owned a
Posamenteriewaaren Fabrik. Her father's family derived from the well known
house of the chief rabbi of Prague, Frankel. Eva obtained an excellent and
carefully chosen education in the home of her parents. In 1826, Eva married
M.L. Jahoda, her former teacher, who also was in born in Leipnik and who was
working Prerau.

The family tree now runs into hundreds and through the internet I have been
able to trace various legs of the family long forgotten. Can you see where the connection is? Many thanks.
