In May of 1993, several hundred descendants of the illustrious Zaddik, the Noda B'Yehuda joined together in a warm and memorable 3-day gathering to commemorate the 200th Yarzeit of their ancestor. The Mystical City of Prague was the place for this outpouring of love and respect. The streets of Prague were once again alive with the presence of Jewish people who walked through the city, prayed in the Alt-Neu Synagogue, and stood at the graves of the Noda B'Yehuda and the eight members of his immediate family.
It was a lovely spring afternoon when we arrived in Prague. As soon as we stepped onto the bus that would take us to the hotel, we immediately began mingling with our newly found relatives who were as excited to be there as we were. The surname of Landau was a common reply when one asked the other what their names were. Others did not have the Landau surname, however their mothers, grandmothers, or wives had been born into families that did.
During the following three days we toured the Old Jewish Ghetto and the historic sites of the city, visited numerous Jewish museums and synagogues, experienced a memorable Shabbos, and finally the highlight of the trip: the beautiful and moving Yarzeit ceremony.
OLD JEWISH GHETTO
Walking along the cobblestone streets of that ancient city, one felt transported back in time to the days of true spirituality. The city was the citadel of Judaism for several centuries. The MAHARAL OF PRAGUE and the NODA B'YEHUDA were among the outstanding leaders of the Jewish world during the 16th and 18th centuries. Full details will be inserted shortly.
