These are your best buy for the money since you get several tricks using household items PLUS a few props used with the tricks in each video. $15 per video set.
2. Book, The Klutz Book of Magic OUT OF STOCK
This book is excellent for the beginner of any age. It shows how to do tricks for close-up situations, tricks to perform in front of larger groups such as at a birthday party, and tricks for the more sophisticated audience. Several props come with the book to perform 31 tricks and it all sells for only $13.95
3. Book, The Klutz Book of Coin Magic
This book provides you with a real two headed quarter and a special piece of rubber that you can have a spectator push a coin through without making a hole in it. 24 tricks are carefully explained and well illustrated. Not all the tricks require a two headed quarter, so you get some very useful information about coin magic. Only $13.95
4. Book, The Klutz Book of Magnetic Magic
This book provides information about stunts, games, and magic tricks that can be done with magnets. Besides being entertaining, the book provides scientific information about the properties of magnets and could easily be the start of a school science project. A set of Magnets is provided with the book. Everything is well written and illustrated. $12.95
5. Coin Slide
This trick is for those who are afraid that they have no manual dexterity and can't do a magic trick to save their life. A coin (nickle, penny, or dime) is placed in a groove in a slide that goes into a box. Presto the coin disappears (or changes to another coin if you like). Reinsert the coin slide and the coin returns to normal. Price only $2.00
6. Drawer Box
This is similar to coin slide, but looks more sophisticated. It's not really, but is not limited to vanishing and reappearing a coin. Anything that fits into the box such as a silk, dollar bill, or key can be used. Price only $2.50
7. Foxy Lady
This doesn't sound like it is for kids, but it is. You can do the same trick with five regular cards from a regular deck, but the trick supplies you with a "cut out" of five cards. The center card is a Queen of Hearts (Foxy Lady)with two random cards on either side. The spectator is shown these cards fanned out face up. They are turned face down and the spectator is asked to clip the queen with a paper clip. It doesn't happen, try as they will. Try it. Price only $2.50
8. Ball and Vase
This trick is a classic that all kids seem to like and it is easy to do. A ball is removed from it's vase-like container and put into your pocket. Presto, it returns to the vase from whence it came. Now you do magic again and return the ball to your pocket. Show the vase empty again and remove ball from your pocket. You're on a roll now. Price only $2.50
9. Taper Deck and Svenjali Deck
The Taper deck of cards allows you to locate any chosen card once it is returned to the deck. You can get the marked or unmarked version of the deck. The Svenjali deck allows you to force the card chosen for a prediction or show the deck composed of 52 different cards and then show that all 52 cards are the same. Many routines are possible with each deck. As an enhancement to the Taper and Svenjali decks, videos and books are available which show you how to do many of the various routines possible with these decks. These decks are actually good for any age person interested in magic and are used by professional magicians as needed because of their ease of use and convenience.
Taper deck (marked) $8.50, (umarked) $5.00, Svenjali deck $8.50, instructional videos are $10 to $12 each, books are $3.50. (Bicycle versions also available for $10 ea)
10. Magic Sets: If you have made it this far you have proven your serious intentions to learn the art of magic so I will let you in on a secret so that you will get the most magic for your money. Magic sets give you the most magic and information for your money. Many of the sets also contain several tricks that are scaled down models of the larger illusions done by professional magicians. Now for how to choose a really good magic set. First don't just go for the set that will give you the most tricks for the lowest price. Two of the best sets that I have are the "Professional Card Magic" and "Houdini" sets. You will most likely use almost every one of the tricks if you do a magic show for your friends. Other sets that are less expensive and mostly found in other stores which may cost only $10 - $12 for 25 or more tricks actually give you maybe 3 or 4 tricks that you will really ever want to use. The rest you will probably let the dog chew on. I have some of these sets too for those who insist that cheaper is better. Hey, I'm in business so I got to try to make everyone happy, right?
