Whats In A Gun

When choosing a gun, there are six main characteristics you have to look at and
compare to make the best choice. Whether you are at a store deciding which gun to buy, or picking a weapon from your arsenal to use in an upcoming battle, knowing the ins and outs of these characteristics will make sure you have the right gun for the job. It would be nice if there was a Nerf gun that was superior in every characteristic, but unfortunately every gun has a disadvantage. Here are the characteristics of guns in no particular order:

Range
Range is simply how far a gun shoots. It is the most easily modifiable
characteristic, and probably the most important: if you can hit your opponent and he can't hit you, you are at a huge advantage. Range is basically how much force is applied to the ammo as it leaves the gun. This force is usually in the form of air pressure, in fact, every gun uses some form of air pressure to propel ammo except for the Ripsaw and the Koosh Vortex line of guns, which use a spinning mechanism to launch rings. This air pressure is created either by a spring or plunger mechanism, such as the Expand-a-Blast, or pump action (with a trigger to release air) such as the Splitfire. You can improve upon these technologies in a number of ways, so almost every guns range can be improved. Don't forget that a damaged dart or arrow can decrease range.
The role that needs range is of course the sniper. Part of a sniper's strategy is
being able to hit enemies from a position where they can't be shot at themselves, and
out-ranging opponents is the easiest way to do that. Many guns have extraordinary
ranges, some examples are the Crossbow, Big Bad Bow, Tornado, Firestorm, and the
Ultimator.

Accuracy
Accuracy is a rating of how predictable a gun is when shooting. Contrary to what
most people think, accuracy is not how well a gun can hit a target, although that is a major part of it. A person could miss every time with an accurate gun because of their own aim. If a gun always shoots to the right, it is accurate because it is consistent, even though it is not shooting straight forward. Accuracy depends on how evenly and consistently force is applied to the ammo, and the stability of the barrel, meaning that the barrel is always pointing in the same direction. Guns that requires two hands, or better yet, are grounded, are always more accurate than guns held in one hand Guns have different accuracy at different ranges, generally, the closer you are to a target, the more accurate the shot will be. Also, when you are playing outside, wind can be a factor in accuracy.
Everyone wants accuracy, of course, but especially snipers and assassins, since
they want to hit on their first shot so that they won't be discovered until it's too late.
Most arrow-shooting guns are extremely accurate.

Penetration
Penetration equates with power. It is very similar to range: guns with long ranges
tend to have superior penetration, and vice versa. This is not always true, however, there are many guns with good range that have poor penetration, and a select few have bad range but superior penetration. While range depends on how much force is present and accuracy is dependent upon in what way the force hits the ammo, penetration is really more about the shape of the ammo. There are no ball guns or Vortex guns with good penetration, while most microdart-shooting guns have excellent penetration. The only time this characteristic could be important is when shooting though brush or leaves, or a few other select situations.

Rate of Fire
Rate of Fire is not about the quality of the shot, but how many you can get off.
There are three factors to take into consideration when looking at rate of fire: time in
between shots, number of shots before reloading is required, and the time it takes to
reload. The Wildfire, for example, can shoot 20 microdarts in about 4 seconds, but takes a very long time to prepare because you have to load a dart into each barrel and pump it 40 times. It is possible for a single-shot gun to have a faster ROF than a gun that has multiple shots because it takes less time to reload and less time in between shots, for example, a Lock n' Load has a better ROF than a Supermaxx 3000. Rate of fire can be very confusing because of all these factors, youll have to decide which gun is the fastest for you. Rate of fire is not easily modified because it is part of the design of the gun.
Mercenaries need a high rate of fire since they will be alone and never want to be
caught with an empty barrel. A squad of troopers can benefit from one trooper using a
fast gun also. The fastest guns are actually manufactured by Airzone, because many of their guns (6 shooter, 10 shooter) have virtually no time in between shots; no cocking or pumping required, you can just pull the trigger. Some other guns with a high rate of fire are the Ballzooka, Wildfire, and Razorbeast.

Versatility
Versatility is related to the number of situations that a gun be used in. Smaller
guns are more versatile than larger guns, a pistol can be used in many more ways than a
Razorbeast. Guns that can shoot more than one type of ammo are much more versatile
than guns that only shoot one type, even if you only use one type of ammo, a situation
might arise when you need to shoot another type. Guns that cannot be used in certain
situations are the least versatile of all, for example, the Tornado isn't accurate in windy
conditions and a Ripsaw can't exactly be used in a stealth situation without giving yourself away because of the noise.
Versatility is the hallmark of the trooper. A squad of troopers needs to be able to
handle any situation that might arise. This is also in the sense of collective versatility: as a rule, all of a squads guns added together should be able to shoot every type of ammo. The most versatile gun is the Supermaxx 5000.

Appearance
Appearance is how a gun looks. It is not very important unless you want to
conceal a gun for stealth or you're going for the intimidation factor.
Choosing a gun for your role can be a difficult decision, hopefully this article has helped
you to see how diverse the world of Nerf guns really is.
