 As with Kou Yaten and Kou Taiki, Kou Seiya is a member of 2 very important groups in the SailorMoon Sailor Stars series: the Three Lights and the Sailor Starlights (as Sailor Star Fighter). Sailor Star Fighter's origins date back NOT to the Moon Kingdom, but the realm (or planet) of Kinmokusei. Kinmokusei was a very peaceful and passive planet in the Red Cercis Empire (a rather remote part of our Universe). He and the other Starlights did their very best to protect their planet and Princess (Princess Kakyuu/Princess Fireball) from the evil intentions of Sailor Galaxia, but they proved to be no match. Left in Galaxia's destructive wake were weakened Sailor Star Fighter, Maker, Healer, and NO PRINCESS KAKYUU! Once he and his brothers travel to Earth (and change their identities to mask their Starlight identities), Seiya leads the search for Princess kakyuu and the destruction of Sailor Galaxia and all of her forces. (*None of this is known to Serena/Usagi and everyone else when they meet up with Seiya, Taiki, and Yaten). Seiya is known to be a transfer student to Serena's high school (Juuban High School), whose interests lie in American-style football (for which he joins a club), making frends with Serena (wishing that he had met Serena before Darien/Mamoru did), and being the lead vocalist for he and his brothers' musical group, the Three Lights. Between he and his brothers, Seiya is the one girls fall for the most (because of his amount of charm and pure charisma). Seiya helps his brothers Taiki and Yaten with various responsibilities, tasks, and obligations that the Three Lights must take care of (such as TV endorsements, commercials, and photo shoots). He is very sure of himself and acts like sort-of a mediator if a dispute arrises.
Seiya has many friends and admirors. But his strongest friendship lies between he and Serena. He isn't quite sure of it at first, but he knows that he has a strong attraction for her. Seiya always compliments Serena and wants to do evverything he can with her and her friends. The more time Seiya spends with Serena and the less time he spends in the Three Lights and in the Starlights for their search for Princess Kakyuu, the angrier Yaten (aka Sailor Star Healer) and Taiki (aka Sailor Star Maker) get. At one point in the SM Sailor Stars series, Seiya tells Serena that in everyone lies a type of "star". And the brighter the glitter, the stronger the "star". (*Around this time, Seiya can tell Serena is hiding something from him ). Once that secret is found out, the Outer Senshi and Sailor Star Maker, and Healer make sure that Serena (ESM) and Seiya (Star Fighter) stay away from each other (for the fear of something bad happening).
When Princess Kakyuu finally reveals herself, Sailor Star Fighter is overjoyed and elated (but at the same time, his feelings are torn between Kakyuu and Eternal Sailor Moon). His feelings drastically change when Princess Kakyuu is killed (from confusion to a complete loss of worth and hope to fight on). It is only when Sailor ChibiChibi reminds Star Fighter about how all of the sacrifices everyone has made to get to Galaxia that his "spirit" to do what is right is renewed. (*Just like his brothers and Kakyuu, Sailor Star Fighter is reborn on Kinmokusei after the defeat of Galaxia).

*In the brand new dub of the SailorMoon Sailor Stars season (beginning July 27, 2001 on Toonami), Seiya will not be known as "Kou Seiya", but as "Kyra Lights"! Not only this will happen, but Seiya will be a total female! The dub will attempt to make the romantic liasons between Serena and himself more like "sisterly bonding"-type situations.
