| Letter To Kerrang! Magazine | Script to Kerrang! 2003 awards |
| *Below is my letter to Kerrang! which was published in the issue dated 26th October* While most of the media attention is centered on the frontman or nicest looking one in a band, the people who help make the music and are the most talented are occasionaly the ones left out from the media spotlight. Jay 'Cone' McCaslin, the bass player from Sum41, is a good example. Unlike Deryck Whibley and Steve Jocz, Jay doesn't get very much of the camera during the videos for the songs. In 'Motivation', we hardly see Jay because of Whibley kissing the mic and Dave Kusch eating fish food. So what if he hardly sings? He helps make the catchy tracks that stick in your head on the way to school/college. Without him the band wouldn't be complete. Jay does say that Sum41 did get famous right after he joined. Joe Hahn from Linkin Park also falls into the 'Unwanted Coz They Are Don't Look As Good As The Singer(s)' category. While all the girls are drooling over Shinoda and Chester, Hahn is work his ass off to make Linkin Park's music sound so distiquishable. With his beats and stutter effects the music wouldn't sound the same. So next time when you are watching a video on Kerrang! TV remember that there are people working harder than the singers to make the music 'complete'. Salli, the InMe Superfan. |
*This is what may happen at next years K! awards* Paul Rees: " Welcome once again to the Kerrang! awards. This year promises to be more exciting than last. Lets look at the awards line up. Take it away James." *Video plays, James narates it. We don't see James at all.* James: " Thanks Paul. This year the awards are gonna be, BEST SINGLE BEST ALBUM BEST VIDEO BEST NEWCOMER BEST LIVE ACT BEST BAND IN THE WORLD CLASSIC SONGWRITER THE SPIRIT OF INDEPENDENCE AWARD" Paul: " Thats this years awards and wwe are gonna have some smashing live acts from the likes of InMe, Sum41 and Tenacious D. Okay lets go to the first award." BEST SINGLE Presented by Sara Cox James: " And the nominees are, Sum41 - Still Waiting Tenacious D - Wonderboy Nirvana - You know You're Right Puddle Of Mudd - She Hates Me Harry - So Real Let's see who wins." Sara: " I am very proud to be here tonight. Whoever's name is in this envelope I am sure they deserve the award." *Sara opens the envelope* " And the winner is....... To be continued...... |
