Army Men
They're already small, so they're a perfect fit for Game Boy Color.
As always, the plucky Green Army, under the jut-jawed leadership of Sarge, has been called to arms against the nefarious Tan Army.
One of the benefits of being plastic is that you never get tired, so Sarge just about runs the whole show, from driving tanks to leading charges. Each of the 25-plus missions begins with a briefing, and then it's time for Sarge a strong, silent type worthy of Stallone to get to work.
Sarge can step in and out of jeeps, helicopters and other vehicles if you pause the game and choose the In/Out Vehicle command. Out in the field, he can target more accurately if he's prone.
In the smartly simple game design, Sarge can grab mortars from boxes labeled "M," flamethrowers from boxes labeled "F" and grenades from boxes labeled "G." Remember where you bury land mines, which come from boxes labeled "L." They can hurt friend as well as foe! Minesweepers, in "S" boxes, make the ground beneath Sarge's feet safe.
Near the top of Sarge's munitions list, though, is the bazooka, which delivers a big bang at an amazingly long range.
Publisher 3DO has included some sim and puzzle elements in this mission-based Pak, but overall, Army Men is a briskly moving action game.
Thanks to a Game Link cable, two pals can play Capture the Flag or Blitz, a tiny-head-to-tiny-head fight to the finish.
