Did You Know...
Only 6% of Americans currently own hunting liscenses.
When you consider all costs, hunting deer comes in at about $25 per pound.
Up to half all deer struck with archery arrows are not recovered and left to die in the woods.
One hundred million animals are killed by hunters in the US each year.
Some animals that are trapped for fur are sold under false names, so watch out.
If you have a fake fur coat, make sure people know that it is fake. Try wearing it with a no fur button attached. Fur is beautiful on its original owner.
The avaerage yearly income of a trapper in the United States is less than $250 after equipment costs and liscense fees are subtracted.
Less than 0.01% of the American population participates in trapping.
Steel-jaw leghold traps are one of the cruelest forms of torture for a wild animal. It gets worse when you consider the fact that about 5 million non target animals are trapped accidently every year. This includes dogs, cats, owls, squirrels, chipmunks, blue jays, swans, deer, and golden eagles. Endangered and threatened species are also found dead or injured in traps.
It is now unsafe to leave your dog in your backyard in some city neighborhoods. People have been known to steal dogs and cats to sell for coats in European countries, possibly mixing the fur in with other animal furs.
To make a 40 inch fur coat requires the skin of: 16 coyotes, or 18 lynx, or 60 minks, or 45 opossums, or 20 otters, or 42 red foxes, or 40 raccoons, or 50 sables, or 8 seals, or 50 muskrats, or 15 beavers.
In my own humble opinion- Hunting and Trapping is just not fair, and its unethical too! Refuse to shop at stores that sell fur and warn them that their fur might be mixed with domesticated animal fur as well!
