Question # 1
I just got a pet snake and I heard that it is best to feed them dead food. Is this true?
Answer-
Well, your pet snake can get very aggressive if you feed it live food. It may strike and bite you. Also, feeding your snake live food poses a threat to the snake. It may get bitten, scratched, or hurt by the living rat or mouse you choose to feed it. Take it from me.
If you want your pet snake to be a happy, healthy, family pet, only feed it food that is already dead.
Question # 2
I just bought a pair of ferrets, and I need to know something. How much time should they spend out of their cage each day? If I buy them a bigger cage, can they stay in it longer?
Answer-
Well, the truth is, If you really want your ferret to be happy, you will give it as much time as you possibly can outside its cage. You made a smart descision by getting two, because when I started out with just one he was really lonely. Now both of mine have the time of their lives! Anyway, back on track, you will need to ferret-proof an area where you'll let your ferrets play. They will adapt to your schedule, so don't worry about letting them out a t a certain time. My ferrets sleep when I'm at school, and play when I get home. You can read more about ferret proofing in my ferret page, but for now, as long as your ferrets spend more that two hours outside their cage a day, they can keep themselves amused the rest of the time.
Question # 3
My cat has been losing hair on her neck. It is in one controlled spot, and I'm wondering if it is a particular sore, and what to do about it.
Answer-
Most cats and dogs will get an occaisional hot spot, where they lick it or rub it, and it becomes sore. Usually it will go away on its own, after a couple weeks. In some cases though, you'll need to seek professional help. This happened with my cat once. What started out as a hot spot soon started to get badly irritated. As my cat scratched at it, it soon became infected. After a week it became what is known as a Bacterial Infection. We took her to the vet, who cleaned off her neck and gave her steroids to help with the swelling and itching. Now she is back to normal. I guess the most important thing to remember is that when the sore spot starts to bleed, it is time to see the vet.
