BMX, the term that stands for, bicycle motocross. But for me, it stands for a lot more. It stands for freestyle, flatlanders, dirt jumpers, street riders, skatepark riding etc. It stands for my life and many more people. Back in the day, Matt Hoffman was considered a hero of bmx stars. He had his own bike company too. Now, there is many riders that suck up the popularity, like Dave Mirra, Jay Miron, DMC, no fense. A beggining kid might be physched to see mirra but the older, more experienced riders would appreciate people like Matt Hoffman or Joe Rich who do it for the love of the sport, not the money. Although there is few people who can make a living out of bmx. A good living, Mirra made around 250,000 dollar with all his X-Games money, advirtisments and ads for slimjim and adidas. Older stars never made that amount of money.
The first bmx company was probably haro, the founder bob haro, hence the name. They were also the first to make freestyle bikes. In bmx, you should try everything, you should try flatland, street, racing, vert, it only makes you a better rider and you discover which form you enjoy most. You will more than likely never get good if you don't dedicate yourself to it or not serious about it. BMX is all about progressing, don't worry about being famous. Just trying hard to progress might get ypou famous or more well known. Here are some of my favorite qoutes, from Matt Hoffman and Terrible One. Matt Hoffman made up the most inspiring qoute to me.
Broken bones heal
Chicks dig scars
Pain is temporary
Glory is Forever
In other words, give it hell. You will fail and crash many times, you may get hurt or have pain. But how long does that last? Sure as hell not as long as glory, for glory stays in your head in your memory FOREVER. Just knowing you accomplished that trick will inform you to keep trying, you will pull it sooner or later. Practice makes perfect, and thats what ol' Hoffman meant.
Another qoute I love is by Taj Mihelich, who doesn't get as much respect as I think he should.
"Don't let other people tell you how your life is, tell yourself how your life is"
He means don't let any stupid qoute about life tell you how to run your life. Your life is something that can only be ontrolled by you, make advantage of it and run it the way you enjoy it or want to. Even though life may be hard, keep trying and don't slack off, so you can keep running your life! |
