MICK MARS - LEAD GUITAR
Mick was born Bob Deal in Terre Haute, IN on April 3, 1956. His family moved to California when he was eight years old. Nikki and Tommy spotted an ad placed in the Recylcer which read "Loud, aggressive, rude guitarist available." Mick was signed on the spot!
NIKKI SIXX - BASS GUITAR
Frank Carlton Serafino Feranna (not Ferrano like previously reported due to the Rolling Stone misprint in '87) was born December 11, 1958 in San Jose, CA. He was raised in Seattle, WA with his grandmother. At the age of 17, he sold his guitars and took a bus to Los Angeles, where he began hanging out at local clubs and playing with various bands. In February 1981 Nikki left the band London and started a new band with Tommy Lee who had been introduced by a mutual friend.
RANDY CASTILLO - DRUMS
Born in Albuquerque, NM at a "very early age", Randy Castillo got his start in music pounding the drums in his high school marching band. Later he joined his first band with his father. This time he was on the trumpet playing at local weddings and parties. Soon Randy realized that only lead singers, guitarist, and drummers picked up chicks... it was time for a change. He joined a local James Brown type R 'n B band and started playing drums again. After a short time playing R 'n B, Randy found his true calling.... Rock 'n Roll. Randy joined his first rock band, the "Wumblies", and hit the road in the late 70's touring from New York to Chicago to LA. By the early 80's he knew that if he was going to make it big he was going to have to move to LA. In '81 Randy moved to LA and joined the "Motels" and hit the road for his first major tour playing in arena's opening for the "Cars."
In the mid '80's Randy joined forces with Lita Ford and recorded the "Dancing on the Edge" album. He also was introduced to Nikki (Lita's boyfriend at the time) and Tommy. They all quickly became friends.
After the "Dancing on the Edge" tour, Randy moved back to his home state of New Mexico and took up snow skiing... he "basically became a bum." One day out of the blue, and after breaking his right leg skiing, Tommy Lee calls from a party with Ozzy Osbourne and tells Randy that Ozzy needs a new drummer. The next day Randy was on a plane along with his cast to meet Ozzy.
Things don't work out at the audition because of the broken but Randy and Ozzy do hit it off. Two months later, Randy gets a call from Ozzy and asks how the leg is doing. Randy tells him that it's never been better. He is asked to joining Ozzy's band on the spot. For the next ten years Randy plays and co-writes music for Ozzy.
In April of '99 Randy gets a call from Sharon Osbourn telling him that Motley Crue is looking for a new drummer (how ironic!) and that he should call Nikki. Randy and Nikki talk on the phone for a while then Nikki asks if he can call back in a few minutes. Nikki calls Mick and Vince to find out what they think of Randy then he calls Randy back to offer him the job... no audition... no demo's... How Motley!
VINCE NEIL - VOCALS
Vince Neil was born Vincent Neil Wharton on February 8, 1961 in Hollywood, CA. Vince was the last to join Motley and he actually blew off the first audition because things where going pretty well with his band Rock Candy. A few weeks later Vince was asked to audition again and this time he came right over! |
