The Goddess gives birth to a son, the God, at Yule( December 21). The winter Solstice has long been viewed as a time of divine births.

Yule is a time of the greatest darkness and is the shortest day of the year.

Wiccans sometimes celebrate Yule just before dawn, then watch the Sun rise as a fitting finale to their efforts.

Since the God is also the Sun, this marks the point of the year when the sun is reborn as well.

Thus, the Wicca light fires or candles to welcome the Suns returning light. The Goddess, slumbering through the winter of Her Labor, rests after Her delivery.

Yule is a reminder that the ultimate product of death is rebirth, a comforting thought in these days of unrest.

String popcorn & cranberries & hang them on otside trees for the birds.

Decorate pine cones with glue & glitter as symbols of the fairies & place these on the Yule Tree.

Hang bells on the Yule Tree to call the spirits & fairies.

For prosperity burn ash wood.

Yule Blessing, Wreath on the door, Mistletoe indoors, sunflowerseeds for the birds, ring the bells to greet the Solstice Morn.

Gather up the Yle greens after the Twelfth Night & save. At Imbolic, burn the green to banish winter & welcome spring.

Consecrate the Yule Tree, Asperse with salted water, pass smoke of inscence through the branches, and walk around the tree with a lighted candle & say"BY FIRE & WATER, AIR & EARTH, I CONSECRATE THIS TREE OF REBIRTH."

The eight reindeer are the eight Sabbats

Their horns represent the Horned God

The North Pole symbolizes the Land of Shadows and the dying Solar year

The gifts are meant both to welcome the Oak King as the sun reborn and as a reminder of the gift of the Holly King who must depart for the Oak King to rule.
