An unprovoked attack against a neighboring country, an assault by a strike team deep into enemy territory, and a declaration of war against the world plunges a previously peaceful existence into bitterness and chaos. Thrust into the ensuing madness is a young man named Squall Leonhart, a cadet in the Garden military academy of Balamb. A lone wolf by the standards of others, Squall's relentless drive to become the best leads him into SeeD, an elite mercenary unit. His final test as a graduating cadet of SeeD is to settle the growing hostilities between the neighboring countries of Galbadia and Dollet. What was already a confusing set of events takes a turn for the worst when Galbadia begins its invasion on the rest of the world. For Squall, the turmoil of the world around him is nothing compared to the turmoil inside of him; his encounter with a free-spirited young woman named Rinoa Heartilly has turned his well-ordered universe upside down. As an intense man who thrives in the regimented discipline of the military academy, Squall finds Rinoa's carefree attitude fascinating. Yet there is no time to ponder these thoughts, for Galbadia's irrational hostility has been linked to a sorceress named Edea, a powerful magic user. The job of dealing with this new threat has fallen to Squall and the rest of SeeD. Focused on this new task, they can only ponder what the future will hold. |

Squall is a poker-faced, short-spoken man who carries a unique sword known as the "Gunblade." That is, unless the subject at hand is one he's interestesd in, at which point he's known to become quite lively and outspoken. He's a bit of a loner (according to Square he has "little sense of comradship for the people around him"), and he wears a necklace that bares a strange griffon-like symbol (the same one that can be seen near the barrel on the Gunblade).

Rinoa is a cheerful girl with an overwhelming amount of tenderness and unyielding spirt. She too is very honest and has no problems speaking her mind and being very straitforward with others. On the other hand though, she's a bit shy, so sometimes she has mixed or confused feelings. Her weapon is a boomerang-like projectile called the Blaster Edge.
Seifer Almasy

Though Seifer is a talented and worthy fighter, his short fuse and lack of responsibility lost him the right to join SeeD. His jealousy for Squall's talent has made him extremely bitter and rambunctious. His rivalry against Squall feeds his endless ego and his need to be the best. Strangely enough, he bears the same scar Squall has on his face and is equipped with a gunblade as well. Seifer is a law enforcer at the Balamb Garden, assisted by Raijin and Fuujin.

Zell joined Garden when he was 13 in order to train himself to be a great soldier like his grandfather, who he admires very much. He's an honest fighter, and he's very straitforward; he fits inot the military stereotype perfectly. He often loses his temper, but that doesn't seem to concern him very much. An all-around honest man, Zell grew up in a wealthy family. Because of this, he lacks seriousness. He's a quick and lethal fighter, and martial arts master.

Selphie was recommended for SeeD. She is a good fighter with a child-like heart. Selphie meets up with Squall and his friends while they are on the dollet mission and is in your party from that point on.

At 18 years of age, she is already a teacher at Balamb Garden - Called "Trepe Teacher" by her pupils. With here amazing fighting skills, she enroled in garden at age of 10, and entered SeeD at the age of 15.

It is said that Irvine is a student of the Galbadia Garden, but evidently, he helps Balamb Garden in a mission. He dresses like a cowboy and uses a shotgun as his weapon. He is said to be a "lady killer".
