Ron and Sara Siemientkowski have filed a lawsuit against the City, their builder, and others. The following message is from Ron and Sara:
RADON IS NOT A HEALTH HAZARD IN OHIO
In November 1999, Citizens from North Ridgeville, Ohio attended The North Ridgeville Council Meeting to voice their concerns over Radon. The current and then North Ridgeville Mayor Deanna Hill and Law Director Eric Zagrans assured the attendees that they will work closely with the Environmental Protection Agency who is well aware of the Radon situation and are closely monitoring whats happening. The EPA can not attribute lung cancer or any other health problems to Radon was transmitted in Mayor Deanna Hills Report on 12-20-1999 over local cable television and reproduced on the City of North Ridgevilles web site for two weeks. The Ohio Department of Health was continuously made aware of Mayor Hills actions from the beginning in 1999. The Mayor stated that the information contained in her report was supplied by the Ohio Department of Health. The Ohio Department of Health has never demanded that the Mayor retract the misinformation transmitted to the Citizens of The City of North Ridgeville. The Ohio Department of Health needs to force the Mayor of North Ridgeville to admit that she misinformed and ultimately endangered the Citizens of North Ridgeville or eliminate their Radon Division.
CITIES IN LORAIN COUNTY ALLOW IMPROPER MITIGATION
In Lorain County, according to Esser and Sons Plumbing, they routinely install tight fitting lids on basement sump crocks with a PVC vent pipe extending out the side of the houses about two feet above the ground creating a Radon Hazard for anyone who comes within the area of the pipe. Esser and Sons Plumbing says that it is code in cities where they work. The Ohio Department of Health Radon Division must correct this potentially dangerous hazard for the homeowners and children in the communities involved by investigating each City and forcing them to notify all homeowners that the PVC pipe protruding from their home or a neighbors home can cause lung cancer in those who breathe its exhaust or eliminate their Radon Division.
HOME RULE DOES NOT MEAN NO RULES
The Ohio Department of Health was made aware that the City of North Ridgeville does not enforce minimum Ohio Sanitary Codes, allowing Moreland Homes, Inc. to build our new home directly on top of an active private septic leach-bed allowing the SEWAGE from the system to become part of the foundation and part of the living environment as the SEWAGE is processed by the basement sump pump with an open cover. The Ohio Department of Health claims no jurisdiction. Betty Montgomery stated that she nor the State of Ohio get involved in disputes with builders. Our tax dollars can be better spent.
FROM 1999 UNTIL TODAY
We have fought without any help whatsoever for our right to be made whole for the wrongs done to us. See Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Case number CV-02-471206. We believe that the Ohio Department of Health has no teeth and should be eliminated or at least downsized in order to direct tax dollars to more beneficial programs.
PICKETING / DEMONSTRATING
We are picketing the Ohio Department of Health in Columbus, Ohio in order to convince them that they must have teeth and must do more to protect the Health, Safety and Welfare of Ohio Citizens.
