Dear Members of Council: There are three issues I bring to your attention in the interest of public safety and welfare:
Along South Lear Nagle Road, between Chestnut Ridge Road and Center Ridge Road are two (2) Bridges that span Mills Cree k. These bridges are in poor condition due to age and corrosion. I had brought this to the Finance Committee's attention during appropriations that these bridges will eventually need replacement and I believe some money was appropriated for repairs/replacement. I realize my replacement may not be aware of this situation. Please forward this information to the City Engineer, as I am sure he will handle it appropriately.
I recently observed the flood control structure located immediately north of the Ohio Turnpike, along French Creek, is partially obstructed with debris causing the West Point Detention Basin to partially back up. This situation causes a reduction in its capacity to store storm water during a heavy rain, which can contribute to downstream flooding. As with any device of this type, periodic maintenance is required. I am confident that when this it brought to the service department's attention, it will be properly handled.
It has come to my attention that the roof trusses in some newer homes may not have been installed in accordance with the "s drawings provided by the manufacturer, namely the truss bracing. Trusses are a superior product and as with any structure, will no t function as designed unless properly braced. Without proper bracing, the structure's ability to handle the weight imposed on it during its life can and will be impaired. This situation was brought to the Mayor's attention some time ago by the former Service Director Mr. Zirzow and myself. However per a discussion with a building department employee, some doubts remain that it was properly handled at that time. When there are doubts of this nature, I would rather err on the side of safety. I recommend that this matter be investigated further.
Sincerely, Stewart Lovece
