Journey

Chapter 1 Beginning Secrets

My name is Ash, from the town of Pallet. I start my pokémon journey tomorrow, I will choose a tame pokémon from professor Oak. There are only three I can choose from and all rare, using the power of the one I choose I will collect all one hundred and fifty pokémon and maybe even more.
“Ash!” my mom is calling me.
“What?” I asked.
“Go to sleep, tomorrow is a big day,” my mom was right, I need sleep but I don’t want to.
“But I can’t sleep, I’m to excited. How about I watch some professional pokémon battles to work on my technique, then I’ll go to sleep,” now she’s in my doorway.
“If you can’t sleep watch this tape, after it’s over you have to go to sleep,” my mom just walked over to my V.C.R. and popped in a tape.
“Yes mom,” I turned the tape on and professor Oak came on.
In the first half hour of the tape professor Oak talked about how to use a pokédex, how to catch a pokémon and their history including how they got their name. In the last half hour the professor talked about the three starter pokémon, Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle.
“Squirtle , Charmander, Bulbasaur, how will I choose? They’re all very rare so when one is caught it is sold to a pokémon professor so the ten year olds who just got their licenses can have it to start off with, if they take courses with a pokémon professor like Oak. If I caught one I would keep it,” I said to myself.
“Ash, what did I tell you about talking to yourself?” she said not to do it, it interrupts others thoughts.
“Sorry,” I better get to sleep now.
*******************************************************************************
screeeeee ah ah.
“Huh?” I shot up in bed, oh it’s just the Dodrio farm next door. Hey they usually don’t crow till about ten this time of year, It has to be before nine or my alarm clock would have sounded. What time is it? “Ah my clock’s broken. mom, what time is it?”
“Ten. What time do you have to be at Oaks to get your pokémon?” I had to be their by ten I won’t get a pokémon. There are only three starters and four kids, it’s first come first serve.
“I have to leave now that’s when. See ya mom,” good thing I slept in my clothes. I flew out the door like a Zubat out of Dark Tunnel. I don’t care which pokémon I get just as long as there is one left!
I ran down the streets and between the hug one hundred foot rock walls that border Pallet to the east and west. I ran at tremendous speed till I got to professor Oaks lab near the seaside that borders us to the south.
Outside a big group of people from around town gathered around the two story brick building. My three rivals were there including my major rival, professor Oaks grandson, Gary.
“So Ash, you came. Have a nice sleep?” Gary was full of himself. He leaned closer and whispered. “Just between you and me. I broke your alarm clock.”
Before I could say anything all three of my rivals went north on the only path out of Pallet, to Viridian city.
I ran into the lab hoping to get a pokédex and pokéballs to at least catch and record my first pokémon.
“Ash. you’re late,” professor Oak appeared just as I entered.
“Sorry but my alarm clock broke and I didn’t get up in time,” I apologized.
“Well, that’s happened to me before so I can sympathize. All three starter pokémon are gone but if you want I can give you another pokémon. It isn’t rare but I have been training it myself so it should be pretty good,” professor Oak was being kind, as was his nature.
“If you trained it I bet it’s the best in the world,” I’m so excited. I wonder what it is.
Professor Oak held out a pokéball with a little lightning bolt in the red top half of the red and white pokéball. The ball opened and a small yellow figure popped out.
“Pikachu,” it said.
“Its’ name is Pikachu which literally means electric mouse. Like most other pokémon it can only say its’ name but the syllables are changed around to make words more or less. If you are a good trainer eventually you should be able to tell what it says even if it only uses syllables. Unlike most other pokémon, this little character here is very powerful for its level and evolutionary status. Another thing, Pikachu hates being in a pokéball, I had to trick it to get it in mine,” that Pikachu is extremely cute.
“Piii Pikachu!” I think it either said it likes me or hates me, wonder which?
“Cute little thing isn’t it,” it is very cute.
“Don’t let the appearance of a pokémon fool you. In this case the Pikachu is very strong and give off one thousand volt electric shocks and even more powerful bolts. In fact the only real weak pokémon are Metapod, Kakuna, and Magikarp but the rest even at low levels have useful attacks,” what he forgot to mention was that low level pokémon are sometimes kept as pets, especially Pikachus.
“Yeah, you’re right,” better kiss up to the man who gives me my pokémon license and pokémon.
“I know I am. Here are six pokéballs and a pokédex. Your pokédex will identify the one hundred and fifty known pokémon and record the types you have captured. As you might remember from your training you can only keep six pokémon with you when you are a trainer. Pikachu is your first pokémon so the first five you capture will stay with you. after that the pokéballs with the new pokémon are sent to me by a special transporter. Your new pokémon will be in your habitat outside. All new pokémon trainers have a habitat, just a bit of knowledge you don’t need to know,” wow, this is just cool.
“What if I want a pokémon I just caught?” it seems like a smart question.
“Well, there is a white button on your pokédex, press it and two lists will appear on the screen, pick the pokémon on the first list that you want and the pokémon on the second list you want to exchange. This is the way it is now but up in Indigo Plateau where the Pokémon League is, they are thinking of changing that. I’m not sure to what but if it does change I’ll notify you,” well that answers my question.
“I have just one more question. Usually if a trainer is late and doesn’t get a starter pokémon they get nothing. What was different with me?” I really want to know this.
“Well I heard Gary talking with a friend this morning and he sad he broke your clock. Instead of punishing him I did something better. I convinced him to take a Squirtle so that I could give you Pikachu and an advantage, Pikachu has an advantage over Squirtle because of their types, water is weaker than electricity,” yes. that is really good. I better start my journey. Viridian awaits!
“Thanks, I better leave now though. See ya,” professor Oak is awesome.
I put what I would need for my journey in my backpack when I got home. I also showed mom Pikachu, she loved him.
I ran out to the rock wall in the east. “Pikachu, let us see what you can do. Thunderbolt it.”
“Pikaaaaaa Chuuuuuuu!” Pikachus’ Thunderbolt came out of its’ cheeks where the electric sacs are.
The bolt of electricity, similar to lightning, cleanly cut a hole in the wall. No one until today has seen what is on the other side. there is a hug field and pond, I wonder what pokémon are in there/
“Char, Charmander Char Char,” a large Charmander came out of the field.
“Pikachu...” I started. This will be his fist battle.
“Chuu,” Pikachu shook his head. Maybe it won’t be his fist battle.
“Run to the pond then. Fire pokémon like Charmander hate water and only drink it to stay alive. It won’t follow, if the flame on its’ tail goes out it dies,” good thing I remembered that.
we ran and were almost to the pond when a remarkably large Squirtle came out.
“Pikachu, you can handle him. Thundershock till he’s weak enough to catch. If I catch him I can get Charmander,” I hope this will work.
“Squirtle Squirt,’ Squirtle used skull bash and knocked Pikachu down but he got up and used Thundershock to weaken it. Now it’s my turn.
I took the small inch by inch pokéball and pressed the button on it to make it as large as a baseball. I threw it and it opened, a red beam shrunk Squirtle and put it in the pokéball. It won’t be caught till the button turns from red to white, then it ill respect me for catching it and it will obey me.
there was a popping sound and the button turned white. Yes, Squirtle is mine.
“Charmander Char,” the Charmander sounds angry.
“Squirtle, I hope you have enough life in you to fight. Go,” I threw the pokéball and it let Squirtle out, resizing it of course, then the ball came back so I could recall Squirtle when I needed to.
“Water gun attack,” I needed to memorize the attacks of the starter pokémon to get my license, now I’m glad I did.
the attack hit the Charmander we first saw and weakened it immensely. I’ll try the pokéball.
“Pokéball, go!” I threw the pokéball and the same thing happened that happened with Squirtle including the part where I caught it.
“Squirtle, return,” I held out Squirtles pokéball and a red beam caught it and sucked it into the pokéball again.
I searched around for a while but all I could find were more Squirtles and Charmanders. Professor Oak will like this discovery.
I ran to the lab to tell professor Oak what I found and to get my pokémon healed.
“professor Oak,” I called out.
“what? Who’s there? Oh, it’s just you Ash. You should be halfway to Viridian by now,” professor Oak was a little confused.
“Well. I found something you might like,” I told him.
“Well?” professor Oak was curious.
“I found a whole field of Charmanders and Squirtles to the east of us.” I answered.
“really? This is an important discovery, especially for a new trainer. did you catch any? Actually, first, how did you get past the wall?” professor Oak was excited. I told him the whole story. Then I had him heal all my pokémon. He took the pokéballs and Pikachu to a back room where special medicines were given for quick heals. A few minutes later they came out and Pikachu definitely looked more energized.
“I’ll go check the west wall and see what’s there for pokémon,” I told Oak.
“Splendid idea. Tell me if you find anymore ‘special’ pokémon,” professor Oak said.
“I will professor, come on Pikachu,” I’m off to the west wall.
I’m almost there, it’s just past mr. Yoshi’s house and, bingo!
“Pikachu, Thunderbolt the wall,” I wonder what I’ll find.
“Pika,” Pikachu shot at the wall, nothing.
“Hmmm, Squirtle go! Squirtle, wet the wall and Pikachu, try Thunderbolt again. The water should conduct the electricity and amplify it,” another thing I learned about pokémon, combo attacks like that are very effective. They tried it and the wall just exploded into a new field, the blast cut a rigid hole in the wall.
“Bulbasaur Bulba,” a big green and blue Bulbasaur stepped out from behind a rock that had been from the wall.
“A Bulbasaur, Charmander will be great against it because it is a plant type and plants are weak against fire. Charmander Go!” my pokéball flew through the air till it hit the ground and Charmander was released. “Charmander, Flamethrower then Firespin, finish it quickly,”
Charmander released a stream of fire from its’ mouth but it missed Bulbasaur!
“Bulba,” Bulbasaur was enraged and tackled my Charmander to the ground and pinned him.
“Man, he’s powerful, Charmander Slash it till he gets off you then counter with Firespin, you can do it,” I hope he can do it anyway.
“Char,” Charmander was struggling to get a hand free to Slash.
“That’s it, keep it up,” I’m encouraging him.
yes, Bulbasaur left an opening and Charmander Slashed it a couple of times and it got off.
“Chhhhaaaaarrrr,” Charmander yelled as a column of flames came out from its’ mouth and formed a tornado of flames around Bulbasaur and weakened it to the verge of fainting.
“Pokéball go!” I threw an empty pokéball right at Bulbasaur. It’s so weak it can’t break out of the pokéball. The button didn’t take long to turn white. “Yes, we got Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, return,” I held two pokéballs to get them to return.
“Mewwww,” a strange looking cat pokémon shrieked.
I whipped out my pokédex and opened it.
“This specie is currently unknown,” it said with no emotion. On the mini screen it showed a question mark to show it’s unknown.
“Pika Pika,” Pikachu spoke up for the first time in a while. I almost forgot about him.
“Pikachu go! Thunder attack,” Thunder is a Pikachus most powerful attack if I remember right. I want to catch this pokémon quick before it used a strange new attack and left.
The sky turned gray and Pikachus cheeks started to spark where the electric sacs were. Suddenly a bolt of lightning came down and hit the new specie.
“Pokéball go!” I threw a pokéball and within two minutes the button turned white and I officially caught a new specie.
“I’ll call you Mew after your call,” yes I’ll be famous. “Pikachu, great job, let’s run to professor Oaks and show him pokémon number one hundred and fifty-one, Mew,”
“Pika,” Pikachu gave a piece sign(two raised fingers, pointer and middle).
Oh boy. Oh boy. I can’t believe this. Making two important discoveries in one day, the first day of my training, is totally cool.
“Pikachu get the door, I'm too excited,” I ordered just as we got to the lab.
Pikachu got up on his hind legs and stood about two feet tall, he walked to the door and jumped up, turning the knob.
“Professor,” I called.
“Ash, find anymore rare pokémon?” professor Oak didn’t think I did and was just joking but I’ll get the last laughs.
“yes I did. Heal my pokémon first then I’ll show you,” I told him
A few minutes later he came back with my healed pokémon.
“What did you think of my new pokémon?” I asked.
“Pokémon are healed in their pokéballs unless, like Pikachu, they don’t stay in pokéballs, or in extreme cases that require the emergency chambers. What did you catch?” professor Oak was excited.
“I’ll show you,” I threw down Bulbasaur and mews pokéballs.
“A Bulbasaur and, hey wait, what pokémon is that?” professor was wide-eyed.
“I checked the pokédex, it’s a new specie. I call it Mew after its’ call,” I said proudly
“Well I must say, I am impressed Ash. this is uncanny, you have given new trainers everywhere the chance to have one of the three starter pokémon, and you discovered a new specie. All this on you first day of training, at this rate you’ll become the new pokémon master by next week!” professor was very proud of me.
“First I have to get the eight gym badges, beat the elite four, and the current master,” I was a little uneasy from all the praise.
“You can do it Ash, now got to Viridian and begin your journey. Oh wait, before you go I want a picture. Hold a pokéball in one hand and, yeah that pose. Pikachu, go on his shoulder and yeah, hold that pose,” I heard a click.
“See ya professor Oak,” I called as I left.
“Oh, shoot, good you’re following me. Bulbasaur return and Mew you can stay out so I can study you,” I’m going to be the best trainer ever! better get to moms and tell her the news.
“Mom,” I ran in the door and she was in the kitchen.
“Ash. why are you home?” She looked at Pikachu then Mew. “What’s that gray thing?”
I sat down and told her the whole story.
“your father will be so proud. Oh, I have some news too, About an hour ago at two O’clock your dad beat the elite four and the former master. He’s now the new master!” mom was very excited.
“Really? That’s awesome!” now that is great news. I’ll brag about it to Gary and make his ego deflate.
“now Ash, go to Viridian and get your first badge in the gym,” mom said.
“I will, see ya mom,’ I ran out the door, Pikachu and mew both behind me.
