Pokemon Yellow Walkthrough

A. Pallet Town

You begin your journey here. Professor Oak will give you a Pikachu, which attacks when you first leave town. You're rival
(Let's call him Gary.) will be given Eevee. Return here after retrieving Oak's package. Then pick up a town map from your rival
after you drop off the package and get a pokedex.

You'll meet two people along the way to Viridian. The first man will give you a potion. I assume the other man tells you that you
can hop over the ledges on the way back.

B. Viridian City

You'll find the first Pokemart and Pokemon Center here. You have to return Oak's package before you'll be able to buy
anything or trade at the Pokemon Center. A man here will show you how to catch Pokemon. A potion is hidden by a bush
above this man. You'll also return here to fight the final gym leader. A boy will also give you the TM for Dream Eater, but you
need Cut to get to him.

There is very little on the way to the Viridian Forest for now. However, after traveling through the Diglett Tunnel you'll be on
the other side of the shrubs. But don't worry about it for now.

In Viridian Forest you'll face many Bug Catchers and one Lass. Pikachu can easily handle these, but keep in mind you should
be training other Pokemon as well. I suggest training a Caterpie because it eventually evolves into a very useful Butterfree at
level 12.

Route 22

It's a little out of the way, but if go to Route 22 you get the chance to fight Gary and gain experience for your Pokemon. It also
gives you a chance to catch a Mankey and Spearow.

C. Pewter City

Pewter City remains the same as in the red/blue version. There are many people here to talk to, but no one has anything very
important to say. In Pewter's gym you'll face a junior trainer who has a Sandshrew and Diglett. Brock will have Geodude and
Onix. Since you can't find a water or plant pokemon yet I would suggest using Butterfree (level 13 at least). He'll give you a
badge and TM 34 (Bide). By the way, the Jigglypuff in the Pokemon Center now looks like a Jigglypuff.

You can also visit the museum if you wish, but I think it's a waste of $50. After you get Cut from the S.S. Anne come back to
the museum and cut down the bush on the far right side. Then you'll be able to enter a new part of the museum and retrieve the
Old Amber.

Be prepared to fight on Route 3. There a total of 8 trainers though some can be avoided. Most are Bug Catchers, who will
carry Caterpie, Metapods, Weedles, and Kakunas. Other trainers will carry pokemon like Spearow, Ekans, and Rattata. A girl
at the very end has a level 14 Jigglypuff.

Before Mt. Moon there is a Pokemon Center so you can heal your pokemon before going further. There's also a man who will
sellyou a Magikarp for $500, but I wouldn't take it unless you want to get Gyrados sooner. Inside Mt. Moon there are many
trainers. Look for the following items: Potion, Escape Rope, 2 Moon Stones (one can't be seen), Hp Up, and TM 12. It's just
like the red/blue version until the end of the cave where you'll face Jesse and James. They've got an Ekans, Koffing, and
Meowth.

Route 4 is pretty much empty. The only thing to be found here is TM 04, which contains Whirlwind. Don't jump over the last
ledge unless you're sure you don't need to go back to the first few cities for something.

D. Cerulean City

When you first enter Cerulean City there's very little you can do. If you think your pokemon are ready you could fight Misty.
She has a level 18(?) Staryu and a level 21 Starmie. Before facing her you have to go through two other trainers. Misty'll give
you another badge and TM 11 (Bubblebeam).

After visting Bill's cottage Officer Jenny will let you until the house that has been burglarized. In the back yard you'll fight
another Team Rocket member who'll return the stolen TM. It contains Dig.

There is a house next to the Pokemon Center where you'll find Bulbasaur. The trainer will only give it to you if you've proved
you're a good Pokemon trainer. (Pikachu must be at level 20 or higher and happy enough to hop twice.) There is also a Bike
Shop, but you need to get the voucher from Vermillion first.

Before traveling on Route 24 you face Gary. He's got his Eevee, as well as, a Spearow and Sandshrew. After battling him you
fight the 5 trainers of Nugget Bridge and a member of Team Rocket. For all this work you receive a Nugget (worth $5000 if
you sell it). On a raised peace of land to the right, a man will give you Charmander (level 10) and you'll see TM 45 (Thunder
Wave).

Route 25 is filled with many trainers. You'll find Hikers, Lads, and Lasses. They'll carry a variety of Pokemon so make sure
you're ready for anything. You'll also find TM 19, but you need to cut down a bush or get the trainer to move forward to get it.
At the end of Route 25 is Bill's Cottage. Pikachu will get a confused look on his face when you first enter the cottage and then
look shocked after Bill is transformed. Bill will give you an S.S. Anne ticket and let you look at some Pokemon entries on his
computer for your help.

There is a house in the center path here. The man here will raise your Pokemon. You pay $500 for entrance and $100 for each
level he raises your pokemon. After a certain level he won't raise them anymore. You may also miss the levels that they evolve
at.

There is also a girl here at the entrance of the tunnel to Vermillion. She will trade you a Machoke for your Cubone. The
Machoke then evolves into a Machap.

Route 6 has a few trainers: 4 Junior Trainers and 2 Bug Catchers. One of the Bug Catchers has a Butterfree so keep an eye
out.

E. Vermillion City

Vermillion and the area surrounding it is quite busy. In Vermillion you get the Old Rod from the Fisherman on the far left of the
town, but you can only catch Magikarp with it. There is also a Pokemon Club in this city. Talk to the leader and if you listen to
his ramblings he'll give you a Bike Voucher. Standing in the the street , you'll see Officer Jenny. After you beat Lt. Surge she'll
give you Squirtle.

Vermillion's gym is fairly simple to beat if you have a ground pokemon. There are three trainers in the first room. All of them
have electric pokemon like Magnemite and Voltorb. Lt. Surge has a level 28 Raichu. It's somewhat difficult to beat even, but
Dig will help out a lot.

S.S. Anne

There are lots of trainers on board the S.S. Anne. When you first come in the boat if you go to your left then down you'll find
the kitchen. A Great Ball was accidently thrown in one of the trash cans here. The set of stairs on the way to kitchen will take
you to the same floor Gary is on. He's on the far right of the ship before the Captain's quarters. After you beat him talk to the
Captain and he'll give you Cut. Don't leave the ship if you want to fight the other trainers. If all your pokemon faint you can
leave the ship without it setting sail. There's a rumor that involves this, but I haven't tested it yet.

Diglett Tunnel

Diglett Tunnel is the only land connection between the first two towns and the rest of the island. It'll bring you out on Route 2
next to Viridian Forest. You'll need Cut to hack away the bushs that block your way. In the the little house outside Diglett
Tunnel a little kid will want to trade you his Mr. Mime for a Clefairy. After that you'll find a large building with one of Prof.
Oak's aids. He'll give you Flash if you have at least 10 Pokemon. Going out the other side you'll find a few pick-ups including a
Moonstone. Then you can get Dream Eater from the kid in Viridian City.

When you head back to Cerulean you might want to go through Mt. Moon if you want to train Bulbasaur and Squirtle quickly.

Route 11

There are lots of trainers on Route 11. You may have to go back to the Pokemon center a few times before you defeat all the
trainers here. There's a lot of grass, which means plenty of opportunities to catch pokemon. You'll find one of your first
psychics here, Drowzee. When you reach the gate on the other side you'll receive the Item FInder if you have 30 pokemon.
Then you'll be able to find hidden items on the ground.

Route 9 starts out of Cerulean City and ends shortly before Rock Tunnel. There will be a few trainers on the way. The TM for
Teleport is found at the beginning of Route 9. I believe there may also be Nidoranas, Nidoranos, and Raticates on Route 9 if
you look long enough.

Route 10 begins above the Pokemon Center outside of Rock Tunnel and continues on the other side entering Lavender Town.
There's very little on either end, just a few trainers. However, at the beginning of Route 10 there is a break in the fence. Surf
down the stream you find here to get to the Power Plant.

There are a lot of electric pokemon here (duh!). It'll look like there are a lot of items lying around but many of these are level 43
Voltorbs and Electrodes. You'll also find one of the legendary birds at the end. It's very difficult to catch so save before you
fight it. Sleep is the best status change to use on it. If you have Articuno use it because unlike other birds Zapdos isn't vunerable
against electric. Remember to stock up on Ultraballs before facing it.

There is also a man who has Lickitung before you enter the Power Plant, but he's not interested in trading.

F. Lavender Town

There's not much life in Lavendar Town; in fact, it's home of Pokemon Tower, the place where Pokemon are layed to rest.
There's not much you can do here at first. If you go into Pokemon Tower you'll face Gary. He's picked up a few more
pokemon. Until you get the Silph Scope all you'll see here is ghosts.

After you return with the Silph Scope you'll be able to see that the ghosts are really wild Ghastlies and Haunters. You'll face
many Channellers who usually have a Ghastly. Psychics work very well against ghost so bring one along; this is also a good
place to train psychics. Before you can reach the top floor you'll have to face a level 30 Marowak. On the top floor you'll face
Jesse and James. (By now Ekans has evolved to Arbok and Koffing to Wheezing.) After defeating them Mr. Fuji will take you
back to his home and give you the Pokeflute.

hiddens items in the tunnel connecting the two routes.

There's plenty to see in Celadon City. First there's a huge Pokemart where you can by almost anything. (I'll try to get a list of
items up once I've got most of the walkthrough done.) Of course there's a gym as well. It's run by women who specialize in
plant pokemon. Take a bug pokemon, a psychic pokemon, or a fire pokemon and it should be no problem. (Why not take all
three?) The gym leader will give you the TM for Megadrain.

Celadon City is also home to the Game Corner, Team Rocket's secret hideout. You can play the slots to win prizes (TM's and
pokemon, I'll get a list later) or you can infiltrate their operation . You'll face many Team Rocket members before facing Jesse
and James. They're guarding the entrance to Giovanni's quarters. After defeating them you'll face Giovanni; he's got a Persian
and Ryhdon as well as others. After defeating him you'll recieve the Silph Scope.

You'll also find the only Eevee in the game in Celadon Mansion. If you go in the front you'll see a few people to talk to, but
eventually find a dead end on the roof top. When you go in the back you'll be able to reach a small room on the roof where a
man will tell you about pokemon training. He'll also give you an Eevee.

Route 16

Just outside Celadon you'll see a bush you can cut down. It will lead you to a small secret house where a trainer will give you
HM 02, Fly. There are also a few pokemon in a grass patch here including Doduo, Spearow, Fearow, Rattata, and Raticate.

One of two Snorlax is found on Route 16. You'll need the Pokeflute to wake him up. He's a difficult pokemon to beat. I
suggest using a pokemon that can put Snorlax to sleep before it gets the chance to use Rest to refill its energy.

Route 17 begins the slope of Bycicling Trail. There are many trainers here who carry pokemon like Grimer, Wheezing, and
Machop. It would probably be best to carry a pychic with you here. There's also a patch of grass where you can catch
pokemon and numerous opportunities to fish.

At the very end of Bycicling Trail, a chef will trade you a Tangela for a Parasect.

H. Saffron City

The first goal in Saffron is to free the Silph building from the hands of Team Rocket. If you're familiar with the Silph Co. building
in the Red/Blue versions then this is no problem. Everything is in the same place. Be sure you have room for all the items you'll
find here. Team Rocket's leader, Giovanni, has a Rhydon, a Persian, and a Nidoqueen. Take care of them with a plant/water
pokemon, ground pokemon, and ice pokemon, respectively.

There are two gyms in Saffron; one a fighting gym, the other a psychic gym. A ghost or psychic will do well if the fighting gym,
but you can use almost any pokemon here. In the psychic gym you should use a bug pokemon. (Many people say ghost, but
they're very wrong.) You'll have to go through a maze of warp tiles before you find the gym leader which means you'll also have
to fight a few battles. Sabrina, the gym leader, will have an Abra, a Kadabra, and an Alakazam (all at level 50!). She'll give you
TM 46, Psywave.

There are a few places you'll want to visit in Saffron. Find the Copycat's house she'll give you TM ,Mimic, if you give her a
Pokedoll (found in Celadon Dept Store). Also visit Mr. Pyschic's home and he'll give you the very powerful TM 29, Psychic.

I. Fuchsia City

The most important place in Fuchsia City is probably the Safari zone. (Again more later, when I've got more time to explore
and find out what pokemon are native there.) There are many rare pokemon there, but they're a bit difficult to catch because of
the Safari Balls. For $500 you get 30 Safari Balls (barely enough to catch the decent pokemon) or 400 paces whichever
comes first.

In the Safari Zone you'll find several TM's and HM 03, Surf. You'll also find a pair of Gold Teeth to give to the Safari Zone
Warden in exchange for HM 04, Strength. You'll also find the eldest of the fishermen, who will give you the Best Rod (able to
catch a variety of water pokemon).

The gym in Fuchsia is one of the more difficult ones. It's trainers carry a mixture of psychic and poison pokemon. I actually had
to try this gym twice before I beat it. There's also an invisible maze to go throught before you face Koga, the gym leader. (In
the American version you can see the walls a little, but not here. Completely invisible.) Koga has three Venonat and a
Venomoth all above level 50. He'll give you TM 06. It contains Toxic, a very powerful poison move that inflicts more damage
each time it works.

After this I usually backtrack along routes 12, 13, 14, and 15 before heading to the Seafoam Islands.

*note - Farfetch'd is found only on Route 13, but is added here for simplicity.

In Route 12 you'll face Fishermen. It's a good place to train a plant or electric pokemon. It's also the location of the second
Snorlax. You'll find two TM's on this path TM 39, Swift, and TM 16, Payday. As you can see it's the home to several
pokemon as well.

On Route 13 you'll face many more trainers. There are quite a few bird trainers and another opportunity to train electric
pokemon. Also look for the hidden PP up.

Route 14 and Route 15

Like routes 12 and 13 these routes are so similiar I've just combined them into one section. Aside from a lot of trainers and
wild pokemon there's not that much here. However, you do find TM 20 here. It contains Rage.

Route 19

There are a lot of swimmers on Route 19. The only pokemon you'll run into while surfing is Tentacool. Before you begin surfing
you'll see a little hut on the beach. This is the surfer dude's home. If you have the rare surfing Pikachu you'll be able to play a
surfing mini-game.

You'll need Strength here to move boulders or you'll never be able to get through. There are very swift currents in the water in

Articuno is more difficult to catch than most pokemon, but not as hard as the other legendary birds. Weaken it as much as you
can without knocking it out. Then you should put it to sleep. Other status changes work too, but sleep is the best to use. After
it's asleep and weak throw Ultraballs at it. It may still break free a few times though. My best advice would be to save the game
immediately before facing it.

There are a lot of trainers on these routes surrounding Cinnabar Island. You'll probably be weak coming out of the cave on
Seafoam Island so it's best to avoid trainers until you've had a chance to heal your pokemon. Once you've done that surf back
and mop the floor with them. Trainers on Route 20 are Swimmers; there's a mix of Swimmers, Fishermen, and Birdkeepers on
Route 21. At the end of Route 21 there is a small patch of grass before heading back to Pallet Town.
