This is what the starting screen looks like in Pokemon Gold.

When you start the game you see it is like red and blue with only 1 game save slot. I was really hoping to be able to save multiple games. Right after I started a new game it asked for the time. Then Professor Oak gave his usual boring speech.

During his speech, he shows a picture of marril and says it is one of the many pokemon you will encounter during the game. He also says that his friend, Professor Ustugi, will give you your first pokemon. As soon as I got away from his lecture, I found that I was in my house. Mom came up to me and told me how to use the pokegear. Your pokegear is a telephone, map, and watch. I left my house and was eager to find professor ustugis lab so I could choose my first pokemon. His lab was only a couple of houses away, and I was soon checking out the new pokemon. I had 3 choices. Hinoa (the fire pokemon), Wanin (the water pokemon), or Chico (the plant pokemon)
