In a lab on New Island, a team of scientists altered the DNA of a fossilized Mew eyelash. In a large tank, the DNA is stored and takes form, and Mewtwo is born. Sensors are all over the body growing in the tank. Two of scientists watch. One complains, "It's the same as all the other copies. It never opens its eyes. Why don't they open their eyes?" The other agrees, "They should wake up immediately." Mewtwo tellepathicly befreinds the clone of Ai, Dr. Fuji's daughter. The scientists, watch them as their brain waves inform them that the clones are communicating. The clones create their own world, which soons begins to fade with the death of Charmandertwo, Squirtletwo, Bulbasaurtwo, and Aitwo. Young Mewtwo is the only survivor of the cloning process. He is left alone to grow up in the dark tank for the rest of his life... until the premeirm of Mewtwo Strikes Back.
Mewtwo is very misunderstood. He has a callous, wrathful disposition throughout the majority of his movie, but even so, he is not evil at heart. He was always serious and pursuing his goals with all of his actions. He was a very deep thinker and a philosopher on a few topics. Also, he was more intelligent than most humans. I'm mean, after all, he DID rebuild, and, might I add, greatly improved upon the lab and turned it into his fortress. He is a very interesting character because of this, and stands out among the other characters who suffer less and don't have to face problems he did.
Mewtwo's major motivations were revenge and a desire to prove that he was superior to the Pokémon he was cloned from. He hates all humans. Not only did they create him, but they also tried to enslave him. Due to his bad experiences with humans at the beginning of his life, he believes that they all try to evil, and that he is vastly superior to them. He killed all of the scientists that created him, and tortured Umio (and really got a thrill off of it). Not only does he want revenge against humanity, but Mew as well. He needs to defeat a Mew to prove his worth in his own mind.
Mewtwo seems to be located on the thin line between Pokémon and humans. His form has a rather humanoid look to it, sort of like an anthropomorphic creature. As we all know, he is capable of speaking the human language (through telepathy, of course), walks on two legs, and is much more intelligent than the other Pokémon. It is said that the genes of both a Mew (taken from the fossilized eyelash) and a human were spliced to create Mewtwo. It has also been suggested that he could be part Abra-Kadabra-Alakazam as well (which I think makes a little more sense).
Mewtwo's psychic powers produce the typical blue field of psychic energy. During the movie he proved that his arsenal comes with a variety of skills (including mental control, weather manipulation, disable, confusion, reflect, barrier, psychic, energy bombs, and physical manipulation), making him the perfect catch.
