Charizard is both of our's absolute favorite fire Pokémon.
As a Charmander, Ash's Charizard was abandoned by it's original trainer, Damien. It was left on a rock in the woods near Route 24, where it was found by the ever lost, Ash & Gang. Ash and Brock carried the Charmander to the nearby Pokémon Center, braving a fierce lightning storm which almost cost Char his life. The next day, Char went back to the rock to wait for his trainer, until it sensed something was wrong. After Pikachu's capture by Team Rocket, Charmander showed itself and toasted 'em. Damien suffered the same fate as he revealed that he was glad he never had to raise it and only used it to do battle. Char then went to Ash and acompanied him on his journey.
Ash's Charizard is very tough and arrogant, and at times, selfish. As a Charmander it was totally obedient to Ash's orders, but as soon as it evolved to its second stage, Charmeleon, it began to lose his respect for Ash rather quickly. I mean come on, when it wasn't in battle, it was usually lighting the way through some cavern. As Charmeleon, he tried to make him lose to a pathetic Paras.
In the long awaited episode, Charizard Chills, Char is put into battle against a Poliwrath of all things. Uh, Ash, little lesson here, Charzard, fire Pokémon. Poliwrath, water Pokémon. Water Pokémon anialate fire Pokémon. Well, Ash sure learned his lesson, when he nearly got Charizard KILLED! And so, Ash & Gang work all day to get Charizard thawed out of Poliwrath's Ice Beam attack, while this going on, Charizard realizes Ash is trying to save him, just like he did when he was a Charmander. Char starts having all these flashbacks about all the battles he won with Ash, about how he treated Ash, when he was Charmeleon, and at the Cinnaber Gym. As Team Rocket attacks, Charizard flies by Ash, hinting him to climb aboard, and they save Pikachu. Ash and Tad finish their battle with Charizard being victorious with it's super Seismic Toss. Better luck next time Poliwrath, you should know you can't make Charizard look like a chump twice in a row. |
