Matched up against the mystical power of Majora's Mask,
Link must race against time to stop the maniacal moon from
crashing into the world. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
is Link's most massive adventure ever, riddled with
maddening puzzles and raging with sword-swinging action To
survive the rigors of this quest, the body must be strong and
mind must be stronger. Are you ready? Well are you? You?d better be sure, because you?re about to
embark on one of the most complex, intelligent, and immersive
action RPG?s since?well, since Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of
Time. And just to make things more interesting they?ve
thrown in a ton of time traveling, ala Chrono Trigger, so that
you have to endlessly live the three days in this game over and
over again. Sounds boring, but it?s completely the opposite.
A Majora Pain
Actually, it?s not boring, but it is a major pain in the ass,
considering that when you time warp back to the beginning of
the first day you lose certain items (including the Rupees
you?ve acquired, unless you save them in a bank). But it?s
all to foil a villain named the Skull Kid who has turned the land
of Termina into his own personal playground. You only have
three days to do it, but in those three days there are so many
side quests, mini-missions, and promised favors that you?ll
find yourself warping back and forth a lot.
The graphics are as magical and mystical as the first N64
Zelda, with sharper imagery and less fog surrounding certain
areas. Although the graphics are not perfect (camera angles
are still a problem, and the graphics still retain a very young
look about them), they are damn near close for the Nintendo
64. Where processing power is sacrificed is for cleverness sake
? the puzzles are so complex and require such innovative
thinking that you soon forget the graphics.
The sound is a huge achievement when you consider the
limitations of the Nintendo 64 in general. There?s some minor
voice (mostly in the background, and never fully formed
sentences), but there?s a great soundtrack, with tribal music
dominating the first part of the game, and the classic music
from past Zelda?s cropping up in unexpected places. Old
school gamers will recognize these pockets of joy immediately.
Time is of the Essence
Control, which has never been a problem in the past games,
remains fairly uncomplicated in this version. The only caveat is
that there are still a number of blind leaps and platform
hopping, always an annoyance in a game with so much action.
There?s also a ton of min-games and side quests to help hone
those skills, but if you skip them, you?ll find yourself unable to
cope with certain situations. The exploration is heavy in
Majora?s Mask.
Fans of the first Legend of Zelda on the Nintendo 64 (or any
before that) will certainly find themselves wrapped up in
Link?s new adventures without any difficulty or complaints.
Those gamers new to the adventures of Link and Zelda may
want to do some background work and play Ocarina of Time
before they jump headfirst into Majora?s Mask. Core RPG
players could do no worse than this on their Nintendo 64 ? if
the choice is going to fall between Majora and Ogre Battle,
you?ll find that you can play and enjoy both ? but we
suggest Zelda first. -- Lawrence Neves

Cheats
Easy Money
Outside Clocktown in the Termina field head toward the Milk Road. Near the trees
you will be attacked by a vulture who is ready to steal your Rupees, and other
items. If you are able to beat the vulture you will be rewarded with 200 Rupees. You
can deposit the money in the bank and then go fight the vulture again. There is no
limit to how many times you can fight the vulture.

Masks!
One of the key aspects of the Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask are the unique
masks that Link will find throughout the game. Some will transform Link into new
forms, while others have very limited uses. There are a total of 24 masks in the
game, and you can find them listed below:
1. Deku Mask: Link begins the game with this mask. As the Deku Shrub, he can
hop on top of water a couple times, as well as shoot bubbles at enemies. Also, the
Deku Shrub can burrow into flowers and then shoot into the air ? gliding down
slowly. Controls: A: Spin B: Shoot bubble
2. Bremen Mask: Link receives this mask from the weird guy in the Laundy Pool
area of Clock town at night during the first or second days. It is used to herd chicks
in the ranch, which will get you the Bunny Hood.
3. Great Fairy Mask: You get this mask by returning the second lost fairy to the
Great Fairy. It can attract Stray Fairies in dungeons.
4. Bunny Hood: When wearing this mask, Link runs at an increased rate. You get
it by using the Bremen Mask and herding all the chicks in the Chicken Coop of the
ranch during the day.
5. Mask of Scents: Follow the Deku through the tunnel (use the Bunny Hood to
keep up) that is to the left of the Deku Palace. The mask can detect scents such
as mushrooms.
6. Goron Mask: Play the Song of Healing for the old Goron ghost after following him
to the Goron Shrine. The mask turns Link into a Goron, complete with increased
size and strength. Controls: A: Curl (hold down A, and then press up to build speed)
B: Attack If you hold down A and then press B, you will do the Goron Stomp.
7. Romani?s Mask: Complete both Romani?s and Cremia?s notebook entries. This
mask gives you access to the Milk Bar in Clock Town.
8. Kamaro?s Mask: Play the song of healing for the guy dancing on top of the
mushroom to the north of Clock Town. He is only there at night, and the mask
allows you to dance.
9. Blast Mask: Stop the thief after midnight during the first day in North Clock Town.
You can blow up objects using this mask ? just like a bomb, but you will loose one
heart per blast.
10. Kafei?s Mask: Speak to the woman in the Mayor?s House in East Clock Town.
Used in a couple notebook quests.
11. Captain?s Hat: Defeat the sleeping skeleton in the graveyard. The Hat allows
you to speak to the undead.
12. Mask of Truth: Complete the first Spider Dungeon. It allows you to speak to the
weird stones around the world.
13. All Night Mask: Stop the thief on Day 1, then buy it for 500 Rupees from the
curiosity shop on Day 3. It allows you to stay up late and listen to the old lady's
stories in the inn.
14. Stone Maske: Use the Lens of Truth near the entrance to the graveyard to find
a soldier. Give him a red potion to get the mask. Some enemies will not notice you
while wearing this mask.
15. Keaton Mask: Go to Kafei?s house in the afternoon of the third day after you
take the pendant to Anju. Wear this mask and slash at the bushes that move (like
the ones in North Clock Town) to make Keaton appear. Answer his quiz questions
correctly to get a Heart Piece.
16. Don Gero's Mask: Light all the torches in the Goron Village, then use the
Goron roll to destroy the barrels on the chandelier. Take the chunk of meat to the
shivering Goron in the mountain village. The mask will allow you to speak to frogs.
See the Frog Locations below.
17. Zora Mask: Push the sick Zora to the shore in the Great Bay, and then play the
song of healing for it. The mask turns Link into a Zora. Controls: A: Swim B: Dive R:
Energy Field
18. Garo's Mask: Ride Epona into the racetrack on Milk Road, and win the race to
get this mask. This allows you to get into the Canyon area.
19. Postman's Hat: Can be used to open mail boxes in Clock Town. You get his
mask by going through the Kafei notebook entry until you get the letter to Aroma.
Give it to the postman, and then talk to him about it.
20. Circus Leader's Mask: Go into the Milk Bar, and help the Zora with his sound
check by playing the instruments while wearing each of your three transformation
masks (Deku, Goron, Zora) and as Link. If you wear the mask during Cremia's
notebook entry there will be no attackers.
21. Couple's Mask: Complete Anju's notebook entry by recovering the stolen
mask. Wear this and speak to the Mayor after 10pm for a heart piece.
22. Gibo Mask: Play the song of healing for the mummy in the Canyon house to
get this mask that will allow you to speak to Gibdos.
23. Giant's Mask: Kill the Eyegore in the Inverted Stone Tower. This mask makes
Link big.
24. Fierce Diety Mask: First gather all of the other masks in this list. Then,
complete the mini-dungeons at the end of the game, and you will get this mask. It
turns link into Oni Link.
Frog Locations:
1.Laundry Pool
2.River Ride
3.Woodfall Temple in mini-boss room
4.Mountain Village after the Snowhead Temple is cleared
5.Great Bay Temple in mini-boss room
Once you locate all of the frogs, use Don Gero's Mask to speak to them. Re-unite
them in the Mountain Village after you defeat Goht to get a Heart Piece.
Slow Down Time
If you play the Song of Time backwards, time on the clock will move slower, but you
will still move at the normal speed. This is very useful when running long distances
or when trying to prolong game time.
The song is: C-Down, A, C-Right, C-Down, A, C-Right.
To return the normal flow of time, simply play the song again.
Stone Mask Secret
A hidden feature of the Stone Mask is that it will camouflage Link. This is helpful
because most of the enemies will not be able to see you. Bosses will still be able
to see you, but most of the typical "run-of-the-mill" bad guys will ignore you.
Useful Items And How You Get Them
Adult Wallet: Give banker 200 Rupees (or more) to get this item that allows you to
hold up to 200 rupees.
Giant Wallet: Complete the 2nd Spider Dungeon to get this item that will allow you
to hold up to 500 rupees.
Large Quiver: Beat the current record in the East Clock Town shooting gallery to
get this item that will allow you to hold up to 40 arrows.
Hero Bow: Found in Woodfall Temple, this item allows you to shoot arrows. It
includes 30 arrows when you first get it.
Bombs: Buy a Bomb Bag in West Clock town to be able to collect Bombs and
blow stuff up.
Bombchu: These are small bombs that run along the ground. You can find them in
a hole in the ground to the east of Clock town (near where you enter the cemetery ?
blow up a rock to find it), and another hole along a cliff wall in Great Bay Coast
(near the fairy fountain).
Razor Sword: Visit the smiths in the cottage in Mountain Village after you
complete the Snowhead Temple, and pay them 100 rupees. The sword will
disappear if you travel back in time.
Gilded Sword: First, get the Razor Sword. Then win the Goron Races to get Gold
Dust that will allow the smith to forge you this sword. It will not vanish if you go
back in time.
Camera: Save the witch in the Southern Swamp. You can take pictures with this.
Hook Shot: Found in the Pirate's Fortress. It acts like a grappling hook, and will
allow Link to pull himself to far objects. You can also kill enemies with it.
Lens of Truth: Follow the owl across the hidden platforms in the Goron Town to a
cave. The lens will reveal that which is normally hidden.
Powder Keg: Bought in Goron Town for 100 rupees after you complete the seller?s
test by carrying one to the Goron Race Track and clearing the entrance. You can
also buy one for 50 Rupees from a Goron in the Clock Town Bomb Shop if you are
wearing the Goron Mask.
Bottles: Link can carry a total of six bottles that can be used to hold various things.
The locations of all of them are listed below: 1. Get the medicine for the sick witch
in the Southern Swamp. It will come in your first bottle.
2. Complete Romani?s notebook entry at the ranch to receive the third bottle full of
milk.
3. Win the Goron races and you will get a bottle filled with gold dust.
4. Win the Beaver races in Great Bay (you need the Hookshot to get above the
waterfall where they are held) to get this bottle.
5. Complete the cemetery side-quest to get this bottle.
6. Complete Madam Aroma?s epic notebook entry to get the final bottle.
Getting Epona:
Getting Epona requires no real chore at all and you can do it as soon as you are able to use Powder Kegs. There is a road
(Milk Road that is kind of easy to miss the first time you pass it, it is next to the southern swamp entrance) go down that road
on the first day. There will be a man Chopping away at a big boulder with a pick. If you don't use the powder keg on the rock it
will take him until the Final day to break it! But when he does the farm is in dismal shape because the Aliens have abducted the
cows. NO JOKE!! Put the powder keg down on the first day and watch the man run away, then enter the ranch and Tatl will
talk to you. Talk to Romanini (Hmm kinda looks like Malon from Zelda 1, in fact they all do!) She'll tell you aliens abduct cows
from her barn and she'll need your help, agree and she will let you practice with the horse, now you could run out with the horse
and leave the poor girl in the dust, but then you would be losing a Romanini mask later on. The Aliens come that night at 2 am
so you might as well play the song of double time to make it night then just wait the extra hours away,(Stock up on Arrows)
then kill the aliens and she is real happy. The sister says she's leaving for a delivery at 6 pm the next day GO FOR THE RIDE!
You can save her from 2 bandits attacking her (The Gorman Bros) and then She'll give u the R mask which let's you into the
Milk Bar and you will get served.
Note:While your at it you might as well play the song of time and come back to milk road and ride your horse into the Gorman
ranch and race them for a mask. |
