Your Domain Control Panel

How does my domain control panel work?

Your domain control panel works similiar to a switchboard.
You specify where third-level names ("Host Names") for your domain name are directed to.
An example is provided when your domain is registered in the first two columns forwarding
to our confirmation page or your website if you purchased a hands free kit.

Website Forwarding Set Up:

In the"address" column adjacent to the @ sign.
Enter the full URL address of your website.

Example: http://maxpages.com/yoursitesname or
http://yourotherhost/yoursitesname/memberspage.html
Select Record Type: URL Frame or URL Redirect.
Click Modify.
Repeat the above step for the hostname www

Visitors to your domain name will be directed to the URL address you specify.
Show records.

What is SubDomain Hosting

In the "Host Name" column, enter your third-level domain,
for example "www" would indicate www.yourdomainofchoice.com
Also, if you would like to allow users to access your site
by simply typing "yourdomainofchoice.com",
then either leave the field blank or type an "@" in the "host name" column.
"home" would indicate "home.yourdomainofchoice.com".
"orders" would indicate "orders.yourdomainofchoice.com".
You can even use "ftp" to indicate "ftp.yourdomainofchoice.com" and so on.
Excluding parenthesis of course.
In the "Address" column enter the full URL path to forward to for example:
http://maxpages.com/yoursitesname/yoursitepage or
http://otherhost/membername/index.html
In the "Record" column select the record type.
Most commonly used are URL Frame and URL Redirect described below and MX pref is 10
A address and Cname Alias records are described later.
If you followed the example in the quick set up above you have
already set up forwarding for your domain
both as www.yourdomainofchoice.com or just yourdomainofchoice.com
When updated visitors to your domain will be forwarded to your website.
Show records.

NOTES: If "@" is used for Host Name, then Record Type can not be "CNAME".
CNAME (Alias) Can be either a host name under this domain name
(for example, "www") or another domain name (for example, "www.maxpages.com").
NOTE: When using a domain name, it should end with a period ".".
(If you forget the period and we recognize the TLD, we will automatically insert one.)

Basic Examples:

You have a website that is located at "http://maxpages.com/yoursitesname"
You would enter www in "Host Name" column
and http://maxpages.com/yoursitesname in the "Address" column.
Select "Record" type.(URL Frame or URL Redirect are most common).
Select "MX PREF".(MX pref 10 is most common for URL redirect or URL frame)
Then visitors to www.yourdomainofchoice.com will forward to your site.

In the next entry:
Type an @ in the "Host Name" column and
http://maxpages.com/websitename in the "Address" column.
Select "Record" type.(URL Frame or URL Redirect are most common).
Select "MX PREF".(MX pref 10 is most common for URL redirect or URL frame)
Then visitors typing yourdomainofchoice.com without the www will forward also.
Show records.

SubDomain Example:

In the next entry:
You could for example type "orders" in the "Host Name" column.
Type your website URL, for example http://maxpages.com/yoursitesname/yourorderpage
in the "Address" column.
Select "Record" type.(URL frame or URL redirect are most common)
Select "MX PREF".(MX pref 10 is most common for URL redirect or URL frame)
Then visitors to orders.yourdomainofchoice.com would be forwarded to your order page.
Show records.

URL Frame-locks your domain name in the browser.
URL Redirect-shows the actual target path of the entry.

When you run out of line return to the page and more blank lines will appear.
You are allowed 15 host names under each domain name.

*Do not enter "mail" entries in the "hostname" columns if using email forwarding.
This field will automatically default to the mail server for forwarding your email.

Record Type Valid entries for Address

The following descibes acceptable values for each "Record Type":
A (Address) Must be the IP address of a web server, for example "66.193.175.9".
Show records.
MXE (Mail Easy) Must be the IP address of a mail server, for example "209.19.56.20".
MX (Mail) Can be either a host name under this domain name (for example, "mail3")
or the name of a mail server (for example, "mail.everyone.net.").
NOTE: When using a mail server name, it should end with a period ".".
(If you forget the period and we recognize the TLD, we will automatically insert one.)
You need not provide a mail entry if using email forwarding.
Just enter your forwarding info in the email panel.
(see below)
Show records.

  • Forwarding and Redirect:

For URL Redirect and URL Frame, this field should contain a full URL address,
    for example "http://maxpages.com/yoursitesname/yourpagename" or
    "http://yourhost/membername/index.html and so on.
    Show records.

NOTE: The MX Pref column only applies to the MX Record Type.
For all other Record Types, this field is ignored.
NOTE: Use the "@" in the Address column to mean http://yourdomainofchoice.com
NOTE: If you run out of lines, submit the form and come back to the page,
more blank lines will automatically appear.
    Show records.

  • The Email Control Panel:

This panel is like another switchboard, except for your email addresses.
It connects two email addresses. You use this form to enter your email addresses
and then where you want mail sent to those email addresses to go.
For example, if you put "sales" (lower case) in the username column
and "joe@aol.com" in the forward to column, then emails sent to
sales@yourdomainofchoice will be forwarded to joe@aol.com.
This is especially useful for sorting orders to a seperate and distinct email account.
If you use all the lines on this form, then submit the form and come back to this page,
    More blank lines will appear.
    Show records.

  • Modifying Name Servers:

LogIn to your domain and click Name Servers.
    Select "Your Own Servers".
Enter the name servers provided by the host.
    Click Modify.
Allow 1-3 days for name servers changes to be propogated throughout the net.
