The Virgin Stones explores a series of spiritual insights. It is less concerned with traditional knowledge than with intuitive, heartfelt knowing.
Whatever you may think of the ideas, whether you feel that they are true or just a figment of an active imagination, the likelihood is that you will not forget them. They may change the way we think about ourselves, the people around us and the planet we call home.
For me, the intensity of the original experience which brought them to me has faded now, leaving the essence of something very precious and ancient. The panorama of knowledge that I touched is still there, I'm sure, just outside the boundaries of our ordinary consciousness, just beyond our reach. To have been there was a privilege, whatever the consequences of my expedition.
Like a traveller who returns from a journey to the remotest region of the planet, the urge to share the experience and to describe what we have seen is a strong one. Our heart may be full to overflowing with the sights, sounds, light and colour of where we have been, but when we try to recapture it, to share it with our friends back home, it loses so much in the telling. Our language leaves us weary and disappointed when we try to use it for a task that is beyond its capacity. We eventually fall silent to avoid the strain of applying such a blunt instrument to such a sacred task.
The greatest loss for me is not found in the recounting of the finer details or even in the huge pieces of esoteric knowledge that I feel sure I have left behind somewhere. Perhaps these are things I was never meant to recall, perhaps some things are truly impossible to translate into this physical reality. I don't know.
If I could change anything, it would be to bring back to this place and time the experience of deep unconditional love that surrounded me and permeated all of my being during part of the period when these insights were given. It will never be forgotten. To share it with everyone would mean so much more than whatever else is offered here. All I can hope is that the depth of that love somehow weaves itself into the writing and helps to illuminate the truth - and that its echo will always stay in my heart.
The ideas described in the book did not necessarily arrive in the order in which they are written, nor were they all received at exactly the same time. I think that the nucleus of each one sprang into my consciousness at some time in 1984.
The earth is embryonic in nature - a living organism of which we are an integral part. We have a hidden energy system in common and in understanding our own spiritual component, we can begin to understand the subtle energy system of the planet on which we live.
Human beings were part of the original creation process and continue to be creators within the system. This is a unique position and carries direct responsibility for the future. Human genetics are instrumental in balancing some mechanisms of the planetary whole.
Wind and Water (Feng-Shui) are one of the means of transmission of information between human beings and the consciousness of the earth.
Within the English language and landscape are hidden markers or pointers to another higher spiritual reality. When we understand our unique position in the scheme of things, and start to look at ourselves as spiritual beings on a human journey, we can begin to identify them.
Some people have reincarnated here for millions of years to hold the balance and structure of the living organism we call earth. Their presence is indicated in the monument we know as Stonehenge and is reflected in similar stone circles and standing stones everywhere.
Our present physical reality is a reflection of another spiritual level of consciousness. Call it heaven, nirvana or whatever name we like. It exists alongside this physical world and everything we know here is an expression of it in some way. There are some very practical examples of those reflections given in this book.
Each of these insights or propositions could provide enough material for a book in its own right. They can be expanded upon endlessly. Each should be read and considered independently of all the others because, while I have tried to make the connections necessary to bring them together, they were originally given to me individually. It may be that the links I have suggested are mistaken ones and this might distort the meaning of the original material.
The Virgin Stones is my attempt to record something special, something which I feel could be important. It is written as simply and honestly as I could do it.
