MAPIT was first formed by Mr. David Reese in August of 1974 and situated in Stockport UK. At that time MAPIT investigators only researched UFO incidents, hense its name being : Manchester's Aerial Phenomena Investigation Team. The Chairman, Mr. Reese ran the organisation until its closure in 1989.
In 1995, Mr. Stephen Mera re-formed the organisation to incorporate the scientific study of anomalous phenomena. A much wider range of phenomena was to be investigated and researched. Subjects such as the paranormal and supernatural. MAPIT became : Manchester's Anomalous Phenomena Investigation Team. In January of 2000 MAPIT went under another re-formation and changed its name to : Manchester's Association of Paranormal Investigators & Training. This change was brought about due to MAPITs work with Investigation & Training Programs & Courses.
MAPIT started its training course in September of 1996 and is still currently running. The British Investigators Training Course (BITC) is the most comprehensive course of its kind in the UK. The BITC has three seperate course from basic to advanced and professional. All of which are a 20 week course which is tutored at schools and colleges around the Manchester area. Any of the courses are also available via correspondence world wide.
MAPIT currently have around 40 members of which 20 are active investigators. Our investigations are generally throughout Greater Manchesters, however, we do also operate outside that area.
MAPIT also offers free analysis of audio & video anomalies as well as photography to the general public. The video trading centre is another service we provide. Other interesting things than can be found on our web page includes explanation of phenomena, investigations, research, many interesting links, a very comprehensive list of UK groups and overseas groups, magazines and journals, a list of investigators that can be contacted and much more.
In March of 1999 MAPIT launched the UPIA : Unknown Phenomena Investigation Association - MAPIT Cheshire Office which is situated in Congleton, Cheshire and the Founder Dave Sadler can be contacted via our home page or UPIA Page.
In 1997 MAPIT also launched SEP, The Scientific Establishment of Parapsychology. SEP only investigate Extra-Sensory Perception & innate abilities and send their findings to several universities. SEP collate information and document scientific findings in hope of educating the general public and the media in regards to the study of parapsychology.

MAPIT conduct residential investigations as well as corporate investigations. The largest corporate investigation we have been involved with was the investigation of paranormal disturbances at Sunlight House, situated on Quay Street, Manchester town centre. The most significant investigation is that of poltergeist infestations where a paranormal water forming was captured and analysed by North West Water Laboratories. MAPIT are currently investigating a rather new phenomenon referred to as High Velocity Anomalies, which are often captured of photographic film and digital cameras at places renowned for their paranormal activity. Also the study of galvanic skin resistance in association with Electromagnetic fields & Geomagnetic fields.
MAPIT also conducts lectures and talks at schools, colleges, libraries, similar groups etc. Lectures can be booked via contacting the Head Office. MAPIT members specialise in Computers, Photography, Radio Broadcasting & Teaching and often are involved with television documentaries, radio presentations and writing articles for magazines and newspapers. MAPIT also provide a newsclipping service on CD Rom and a paranormal photographic CD Rom consisting of over 2000 photographs.
