Plot Details

People of the strange dimension talk about some big carnival that is supposed to happen soon, and that's when the moon will crash. What does this have to do with Link, though? Well, people of this dimension sent a messenger to Hyrule to get some help, and that is where Link comes in.

In other plot news, the Gerudos are in the game. This is really interesting, because people don't know what kind of role they will play in this game, now that Ganondorf is banished away.

Introduction:

Mere months after returning peace to the land of Hyrule, Link once again embarks on an adventure...

One day, deep in the forest, Link encounters a Skull Kid wearing an unusual mask. The Skull Kid has rustled Link's beloved Epona and escaped through a mystical doorway to a twisted dimension.

When Link pursued the horse-napper through the doorway, he encountered a strange, yet oddly familiar world. Despite the appearance of some familiar faces, one thing was clearly different about this place: a gigantic moon loomed in the sky that appeared to be inexorably falling down onto the world. The inhabitants of the world were filled with dread, and lamented that their world would end in a few short days.

"Locate the Skull Kid who hides his face with a strange mask, you may find a clue to saving this place." So said one of the world's mysterious inhabitants, and thus gave young Link an impetus for adventure.

This strange parallel world that Link must explore is similar to, and yet completely different from the world of Hyrule he explored in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. It is full of new adventures and encounters, and features appearances in different settings by many of Links favorite characters from the Ocarina of Time. This strange and wonderful world invites you!

Time Ticks Away on the Enormous Clock Tower
Little time remains before the end of the world as Link knows it. An enormous clock tower ominously counts down. Can Link save this world in the limited time that remains? Unlike previous Zelda games where Link was free to explore at his leisure, in Zelda: Majora's Mask, the clock is ticking down to the world's ultimate destruction.

The Mysterious Powers of the Masks Transform Link
In the world of Zelda: Majora's Mask, the masks are more than just symbols. In fact, Link can even transform himself into a Goron, a Zora and even a Deku Scrub by wearing different masks!
After transformation, Link will have unique abilities. It will be necessary for him to take advantage of those abilities in order to make his way through this adventure.

New, powerful enemies and even more exciting 3-D Action Battles await Link!

Features:

In Zelda: Majora's Mask, Link finds himself in a parallel world where characters that were introduced in the first game may be introduced slightly different. In other words, some of the characters in the game will offer players different quests and form decidedly opposite partnerships with our hero than they did in Ocarina of Time.

Gameplay
Zelda: Majora's Mask will play exactly like the previous Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. There is a meter at the bottom/middle of the screen now that shows the position of the sun or moon at all times. Backing up that theory is a recent comment from Shigeru Miyamoto in which he revealed that time will pass in real-time.

"This time, if you just sit around and look at the sun, the world is finished. It's that type of game." _ said Shigeru Miyamoto

Essentially, the world will be destroyed if you play the game too slowly. The game will progress in real-time. It is believed that the time that passes during gameplay affects the outcome and story of the game much more than in Ocarina of Time. This feature is no doubt a remnant from the game's planned 64DD incarnation, where
everything you do in the game causes lasting repercussions.

The Masks
Masks will also play a major role in Zelda: Majora's Mask. Not only will they be more prevalent this time around, you'll be able to use multiple masks at the same time. Using certain masks you'll be able to take control of other creatures. When Link wears specific masks he is able to turn into other characters - this process will not only affect his appearance, but also his abilities. As an example, when Link wears a Goron mask he transforms into a ball to roll down slopes. If he wears a Zora mask, his swimming skills improve greatly. Throughout the game Link will be required to use these different masks to solve puzzles.

Weapons
Many of the classic Ocarina of Time weapons and items are back, including the hammer, the bow and arrow, hookshot, the boomerang, the ocarina, the bombs, and the dagger -- only that young Link can now use all of them. There may also be some new items in the game that Nintendo hasn't unveiled yet.

New Bosses
Majora's Mask features completely new, big bosses. While the specifics of all the bosses in the game are still being kept secret, we do know of at least three: a Gohma-like creature, an oversized frog and a giant warrior.

Expansion Pak
Since the game was originally designed to run on 64DD, a unit that required the 4MB RAM expansion, it's no surprise that Majora's Mask (now on cart) will support the RAM Pak. However, it is very likely that the RAM Expansion will actually be REQUIRED to play Zelda: Majora's Mask -- just like with Donkey Kong 64.
