PIXAR'S SHORT FILM "GERI'S GAME" RECEIVES ACADEMY AWARD

Point Richmond, CA -March 24, 1998- Pixar Animation Studios (NASDAQ: PIXR) today announced that Geri's Game received the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. The Oscar was awarded at last night's ceremony in Los Angeles and marks the eleventh Academy Award Pixar has received since its founding in 1986.

"It is such an honor to have the Academy recognize Pixar's efforts on Geri's Game," said Jan Pinkava, the director of Geri's Game. "Pixar's shorts and research teams combined have worked hard to develop a story that is compelling as well as technically innovative. We all thank the Academy for this prestigious award."

Geri's Game tells the endearing tale of an aging codger who likes to play chess in the park against himself. It is Pixar's sixth short film, and the first to incorporate the studio's new technology for creating more realistic looking skin and cloth.

Pixar is working on several feature-length projects, including A Bug's Life, slated for release this November, and Toy Story 2, the theatrical sequel to the 1995 blockbuster Toy Story, scheduled for release during the 1999 holiday season. Pixar's partner Disney will distribute both pictures.

Pixar Animation Studios combines creative and technical artistry to create original characters and stories in the new medium of three-dimensional animation. Pixar created and produced the first computer-animated feature film and has partnered with The Walt Disney Company to finance, produce and distribute five co-branded computer animated feature films and related products.
