Two Angels
Memories Heal In Time
|
Two traveling angels stopped to spend
the night in the home of a wealthy
family. The family was rude and refused
to let the angels stay in the mansion's
guest room. Instead the angels were given
a space in the cold basement. As they made
their bed on the hard floor, the older
angel saw a hole in the wall and repaired
it. When the younger angel asked why, the
older angel replied....
"Things aren't always what they seem."
The next night the pair came to rest at the
house of a very poor, but very hospitable
farmer and his wife. After sharing what
little food they had, the couple let the
angels sleep in their bed where they could
have a good nights rest.
When the sun came up the next morning
the angels found the farmer and his
wife in tears. Their only cow, whose
milk had been their sole income, lay
dead in the field. The younger angel
was infuriated and asked the older angel
"How could you have let this happen!?
The first man had everything, yet you
helped him," she accused. "The second
family had little but was willing to
share everything, and you let their
cow die."
"Things aren't always what they seem,"
the older angel replied.
"When we stayed in the basement of the
mansion, I noticed there was gold stored
in that hole in the wall. Since the owner
was so obsessed with greed and unwilling
to share his good fortune, I sealed the
wall so he wouldn't find it. Then last
night as we slept in the farmers bed, the
angel of death came for his wife. I gave
her the cow instead.
"Things aren't always what they seem. "
Sometimes this is exactly what happens when
things don't turn out the way you think they
should. If you have faith, you just need to
trust that every outcome is always to your
advantage. You might not know it until some
time later.
The inspired word of God tells us to, "Give
thanks for all things." Such wisdom!
THE STARFISH
Once upon a time there was a wise man
who used to go to the ocean to do his
writing. He had a habit of walking on
the beach before he began his work.
One day he was walking along the shore.
As he looked down the beach, he saw a
human figure moving like a dancer.
He smiled to himself to think of someone
who would dance to the day. So he began
to walk faster to catch up.
As he got closer, he saw that it was a
young man and the young man wasn't
dancing, but instead he was reaching
down to the shore, picking up something
and very gently throwing it into the ocean.
As he got closer he called out,
"Good morning! What are you doing?"
The young man paused, looked up and replied,
"Throwing starfish in the ocean."
"I guess I should have asked, why are you
throwing starfish in the ocean?"
"The sun is up and the tide is going out.
And if I don't throw them in they'll die."
"But, young man, don't you realize that
there are miles and miles of beach and
starfish all along it. You can't possibly
make a difference!
The young man listened politely. Then bent
down, picked up another starfish and threw
it into the sea, past the breaking waves
and said-
"It made a difference for that one."
There is something very special in each
and every one of us. We have all been
gifted with the ability to make a
difference. And if we can become aware
of that gift, we gain through the strength
of our visions the power to shape the future.
We must each find our starfish.
And if we throw our stars wisely and
well, the world will be blessed.
