Ain’t It Enough

Life can be so demanding
And you work so hard.
You act like it doesn’t bother
You.

Don’t let it get to you
The times that are rough
Why can’t you be yourself?
Ain’t that enough?

Chorus:
Ain’t it enough
To know that others care about you?
Ain’t it enough
To know that it’s so hard without you?
And tell me right now
Are you ashamed to be what you really are?
Just ask yourself
Ain’t it enough?

You are the great pretender
In your own game
You never realize who you
Are.

Don’t be the one who just
Takes what they get.
You gotta stretch farther
Ain’t that enough?

Chorus

I thought I knew you
And they way that you were
Where did that strong person
Go?

You used to be a fighter
Stopping the war
You used to care about me
Ain’t that enough

Chorus 2X

Street Side Commentary

I met a man
On the chilly streets of Chicago
I asked of his name
He could only reply with a glare
I asked him why
Why was he so mad at the world
And this is what
That man replied

You don’t know
How people will act
Unless you see them do bad
You don’t know
How people can think
With all the questions in their head
And you don’t know
The story behind me
What has made me so blue
You’ll never know something ‘bout people
Unless you know something ‘bout you.

And he wrapped his coat
Closer to his neck with a vengeance
And give me a ruthless, sad twisted grin
He managed to smile
Underneath all the anger that was swelling
You could see it
Still frozen upon his chin.

You don’t know
How people do wrong
When it feels so good to be right.
You don’t know
The dangers of darkness
Unless you’ve slept with the night.
And you don’t know
The story behind me
What has made me so blue
You’ll never know something ‘bout people
Unless you know something ‘bout you.

So I walked
Past the man on the street
A few steps closer to the edge
I turned back
He saw the smile on my face
And the corners
Of his mouth
Slowly advance towards his eyes
As he realized
What he’d done
And one year later when I walked by that street
All that was left was a memory
A memory that said

You don’t know
How people will act
Unless you see them do bad
You don’t know
How people can think
With all the questions in their head
And you don’t know
The story behind me
What has made me so blue
You’ll never know something ‘bout people.
Unless you know something ‘bout you.

Waiting for a Miracle

Lost her dad when she was eight years old.
He just got up and left her going cold.
Now she’s been bitter for 14 years
Wiping away feeling with her tears.

Another girl waiting for a miracle.
Oh oh
Another girl waiting for him.
Another girl waiting for a dream come true
Oh oh
Another girl’s life growing dim.

Another girl on a highway road
Waitin’ for acceptance and ride on home.
Giving up feelings for a meal.
No one could tell her that it’s not real.

Another girl waiting for a miracle
Oh oh
Another girl waiting for you.
Another girl waiting for her happiness
Oh oh
Another girl’s world turning blue.

She packs her bag and walks out the door
Leaves a note there on the floor
She doesn’t understand how to commit
That’s why she runs away like the wind.

Another girl waiting for a miracle.
Oh oh
Another girl out living alone
Another girl waiting for something real
Oh oh
Another girl out on her own
Another girl out on
Her own.
