Massage is based on the natural reaction that when you have a painful area you immediately hold or rub it. It is a highly skilled practice these days. Research has shown that many people in pain benefit from this treatment.
Some of the effects of massage are, stretching soft tissue, breaking down adhesions, improving circulation and improved tissue elasticity. Massage can also relax you through the loosening of tight muscles, reduce pain and can balance the nervous system.
However if your back pain improves but does not go away, then you would probably be best choosing one of the other alternative therapies, such as chiropractic or osteopathy. These therapies are aimed at treating long standing and severe back pain.
