Acupuncture has been a common practice for over 4.000 years. It was mainly used in China, which is where it first started.
This treatment involves very fine needles being inserted to certain parts of the body relating to the area of pain. It is aimed at stimulating the bodys energy (or chi) at certain points which speeds up healing. It also reduces pain by sedating a point or it may 'wake up' a point. The needles once inserted, are then 'twisted/twiddled' during the treatment.
Another form of acupuncture is when they heat the needles first. The belief is that it heats the energy making more energy available. This is supposed to be very good if you suffer with spasms.
A registered Acupuncturist will first take a case history and also give you a physical examination. They may even want to take your pulse and look at your tongue.
