GOD'S GIFT
Michael is God's gift to you
A child so precious and dear
A little bundle of sweetness
A little boy to hold near
You will teach him
The direction he should go
You'll tell him about Jesus
And in Him you will grow
Love him and care for him
He's yours for a while
To bring joy in your life
God gave you this precious child
He will soon be toddling
And stepping on your toes
Getting into everything
Tugging at your clothes
Then one day he is a young man
So handsome and full of life
A young lady he will meet
And ask her to be his wife
A precious bundle he will bring
With pride he will swell
This is your grandchild, Mama
He looks like me... can't you tell

WHEN I THINK OF YOU
When I think of you
I think of tender words sweetly spoken
Like whispers riding on the wind
Finding its way into my mind
When I think of you
My soul is elevated to new heights
Challenging my wildest expectations
With soothing softness that envelopes me
Like a misty moon-lit night
When I think of you
My heart must surrender
To your ever present influence
That tests and dares to respond
When I think of you
I'm reminded of your strength
Your ability to make me smile
And the way you express your love
When I think of you
I think of how fortunate I am
To be counted among those
You call friend

HEART STRINGS
Heartstrings that bind me
Passions that run deep
Ruler of my emotions
As our hearts meet
Your presence domands my attention
Devotion without compare
A burning kiss upon my lips
From a loving heart that cares
Love is created
By a heart that is touched
Reason is lost
When a heart loves too much
Bondage sweetly accepted
Imprisoned by fantasies of you
Feelings suspended in time
As Love begins anew
These heartstrings that bind
With a love knot too strong to sever
How can I be free
From a knot tied to last forever

UNTITLED
I have a list of folks I know,
all written in a book...
and every now and then
I go and take a look.
That is when I realize
these names...they are a part
not of the book they're written in...
but taken from the heart.
For each name stands for someone
who has crossed my path sometime
and in that meeting they have become...
the reason and the rhyme
Although it sounds fantastic,
for me to make this claim
I really am composed of
each rememberedname.
Although you're not aware
of any special link
just meeting you has shapedmy life
...more than you could think
So please don't think my greetings
are just a mere routine
your name was not...
forgotten in between
For when I send a greeting
that is addressed to you
it's because you're on that list...
of folks I'm indebted to.
Whether I have known you
for many days or few...
in some ways you have a part,
in shaping things I do.
I am but a total...
of many folks I've met
you are one I would prefer
never to forget.

YOUR LOVE
Your love goes beyond comprehension
Nuturing every part of my being
Leaving no emotion untouched
No fantasy unfulfilled
You're in my blood
You're the warmth flowing through my heart
Tantalizing my senses with your breath
Sending impulses to every nerve ending
Nothing exist but the essense of your scent
Your heated words of love
Whispers of sweet softness
That gently caress my mind
The imprisonment of your strong arms
Leave me dizzy with anticipation
Unleashing desires that I forget to breathe
Consumed by the infinite power of your love
A trail of kisses upon my neck
Cause such sweet surrender
It's no longer just a heated moment
Baby it's a nuclear meltdown

I'LL STOP LOVING YOU
When rainbows fall from the sky
And the rivers cease to flow
The stars lose their twinkle
The moon has lost its glow
When the wind no longer whispers
And the sun fails to rise
No morning dew in the meadow
No blue in the sky
When my heart forgets to beat
No more tomorrows to see
My blood runs cold through my veins
And there's no more you and me
When silence can be heard
And love can be defined
When all mystery's are solved
And the end to endless time
How great is my love
How long will it remain true
When eternity stops
Then I'll stop loving you

THE HEAVENS OPENED UP
God made me an angel
Who was sent for me to love
In his eyes he placed the stars
In my heart he placed his love
His word penetrate my heart
His smile makes me come undone
For the heavens opened up
and sent me the perfect one
A beautiful vision
Instilled within my heart
His love holds me together
When my life is falling apart
We have a bond that cannot break
A love that cannot fall apart
He is apart of my soul
And co-creator of my heart
He is the gift I've always dreamed of
For someone in heaven heard my plea
For the heavens opened up
And entrusted one of their angels to me

IN SILENCE I HATE
Because we are so silent in this dark and angry place
The only remnant of our love, are the tears upon my face
The confusion has been lifted and the pain has settled in
No recollection of who we were or what we could've been
The days we shared have come and went
And blessed are the word, that you never meant
Dare you say you love me and then walk out on me
Left me hopeless and destroyed by disbelief
Now filled with pain, i struggle to move on
With the lingering feeling of your presence
Of our love, that is now gone
I close my eyes and I hope and pray
That you come back to me someday
But this foolish dream is only what we'll never be
The heavenly illusion of what used to be you and me.

COMES THE DAWN
After awhile you learn the subtle difference
between holding a hand and chaining a soul.
And you learn that love doesn't mean leaning
and company doesn't mean security.
And you being to learn that kisses aren't contracts
and presents aren't promises.
And you begin to accept your defeats with your head up
and your eyes open
with the grace of a woman, not the grief of a child.
And you learn to build all your roads today
because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans.
And futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight.
After awhile you learn that even sunshine burns
if you get too much.
So you plant your own garden and decorate your own soul
instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure...
that you really are strong and you really do have worth.
And you learn and you learn and you learn...
and with every goodbye you learn.

This poem is dedicated to my Mom, Barbara, who has terminal cancer.
WHY MUST IT BE HER?
It just isn't fair, Lord...
Why must it be her?
A lifetime of anguish,
She's had to endure.
If doesn't seem right, Lord...
That she be so ill.
She's already known heartaches
That most never will.
I don't understand, Lord...
Why you've let this be.
She's suffered so much, Lord...
Why wasn't it me?

TWO BOXES
I have in my hands two boxes,
Which God gave me to hold.
He said, "Put all your sorrows in the black,
And all your joys in the gold."
I heeded His words, and in the two boxes
Both my joys and sorrows I store.
But though the gold became heavier each day
The black was as light as before.
With curiosity, I opened the black,
I wanted to find out why.
And I saw, in the base of the box,
a hole which my sorrows had fallen out by.
I showed the hole to God, and mused aloud,
"I wonder where my sorrows could be."
He smiled a gentle smile at me. "
My child, they're all here with me."
I asked, "God, why give me the boxes,
Why the gold, and the black with the hole?"
"My child, the gold is for you to count your blessings,
the black is for you to let go."

BREATHE
Breathe a little deeper
And it will lessen the fear.
Listen to your heart
And it will tell you he is near.
All of the uncertainty
Is what makes it so sincere.
If it's only for a moment
It's something never to compare.
Dreams are passions of the heart
Without them, we have no start.
Hesitation is the ebb of failure
Curbing the soul from which to depart.
From deep within you know his love
Let ecstacy fly from within the dove.
Reach out - desire, don't be afraid
You will be blessed from heaven above.

THE DREAMER
Let me come closer, but don't ask for more
We've both had our share of heartaches before
Believing in someone comes only with time
Trust will grow stronger with each hill we climb
No, my friend, it's not a dream
Yet things are not what they may seem
For when one finds a love, as ours
The rose is thornless; the weeds are flowers
We see the world through lovers eyes
And so, each fault, we minimize
I'm not your dream - I'm here - I'm real
And I'm scared, like you, of what I feel
I too, am afraid to reach out again
If only you knew how long it's been -
Since I've felt so special, so loved, so warm
So sheltered from lifes raging storm
Somehow, with you, I feel secure
Why? I cannot say for sure
Maybe it's just that you let me be me
You don't try to change the woman you see
But I'm not a dream - dreams fade away
They're sleepy thoughts that never stay
They only hear the dreamers voice
Who plots each scene and leaves no choice
Of what the other dares to do
That isn't fair to me or you
Come closer now, and I'll try too
We'll be each others dream come true

FOREVER IN MY HEART
If it's true, "love conquers all,"
Why do I feel so unsure?
Why are we so far apart?
Can we go back, as we once were?
Why is our love being tested?
(We both know our love is true)
I need to have a better reason,
Why I can't be there with you.
I want to feel your arms around me;
I long for you each lonely night.
I need the love you've always shown me -
Reassurance, to make things right.
But if we cannot be together,
I hope you know, while we're apart,
How much I love you, now, and always,
I hold you ever in my heart.

HE SAID HE'D BE HOME EARLY
He said he'd be home early
And thought I didn't doubt him
I had this funny feeling
(there was something strange about him)
He asked me for some money
Then promised there'd be change
But as he made his promise
He looked at me so strange
As if his eyes could tell me
"Please don't ask what it's for"
I remember wanting to stop him...
Too late - he closed the door
Then I recalled the message
I had gotten yesterday
it said, "Your old man owes me,
But I'll give him one more day."
Just one more day is all we have
To pay that past-due bill
We never had much money
We probably never will
I remember now ... the phone call
Later on that very day
"It's urgent that we see you,
Could you make it right away?"
The ride, it seemed like hours
But I finally found the place
When I realized just where I was
The tears poured down my face
"We need you to identify
John Doe in Chamber two
He died today - an overdose -
Was he someone that you knew?"
He said he'd be home early
(The words now make me cry)
I have the strangest feeling
That he didn't even try.

THE LITTLE ANGEL
The Lord looked down and said to me
I see you have such love
Watch over my little angel
I'm sending from above
You'll be the perfect mother
But added with a smile
She can't be yours forever
It's only for awhile
I watched my little angel grow
I watched her everyday
I knew she wasn't mine to keep
She'd go back home one day
Our days together passed so quick
Yet each was filled with love
And every day a prayer was said
To thank the Lord above
For sending me His angel
For as long as it could be
And now His little angel
Is watching over me.

UNANSWERED QUESTIONS
As quickly as the darkness forms,
I feel confused and insecure
I come to you for reassurance,
To know we are as we once were.
For questions you have left unanswered,
Only linger in my mind.
And I must rid this inner doubt,
Before the past will stay behind.
Remember though, our love is stronger
From each hardship we've been through.
I love you, but please understand,
My peace of mind must come from you.

WHAT IS LOVE?
Love is many things...
Love is the look a baby and mother share with each other during times of closeness.
Love is being with that special someone way past your bedtime and not wanting to leave, even if you are dead tired.
Love is skipping stones across a pond with someone and laughing at the "floppers".
Love is spending time together on a snowy night by the fireplace, not saying a word but saying so much.
Love is accepting someone just as they are, faults and all.
Love is the miracle of birth, and the grief during the loss of a loved one to death.
Love is watching a sunset at night, with your arms around the person standing next to you, and there is no where else you would rather be.
Love is the butterflies you feel when you see that certain person during the course of the day.
Love is neither right or wrong, but you know it when it's more right than wrong.
Love is a Father and a daughter sharing an ice cream cone.
Love is the simple things in life that don't cost a fortune.
Love is a diamond, brilliant, glowing, reflecting more light back than it takes in.
Love is never having to say your sorry...for the same thing twice.
Love is faithfulness.
Love is holding hands and walking in the rain.
Love is a warm puppy on a cold winter night.
Love. It'll never be defined, only refined.
Love takes practice, and it takes strength to keep it going.
Love is the union between two people that withstands the harsh realities of life, and comes out stronger for it.
Love is all of this and more....You have to find love before you can know what it is.

DREAMS
I dream of the day when we meet face to face,
and I hold you in my arms for so long,
That we forget all about our time and our space
and our hearts join together in song.
Of wonderous things that await us in store
as the future before us unfolds,
Giving life and love as we know it and more,
I know what the future holds.
A lifetime of love, understanding and trust
that flows from this heart into yours,
Will keep us together, forever with just
some loving behind closed doors.
I dream of the day when you say to me
My love in your house I'll abide.
Through thick and thin I forever will be
right there, standing close to your side.
Happier or gladder no man will be
than to hear these things from his true love,
With grateful heart and devotion would he
join together like hand in a glove.
Their dreams, their hopes, and even their fears
all together he would combine.
Loving and kissing away all your tears
and showing a love that's divine.
So take my hand and walk with me now
as we begin this journey together,
Let my heart and my soul show you how
We can forge love that will last 'till forever.
I dream of the day when we meet face to face
And I hold you in my arms for so long.
We've forgotten all about time and space
and our hearts are still singing this song.

FOREVER YOURS
Whenever things gang up on me
and life seems just too much,
I think about your smiling face,
your tenderness, your touch.
Or how through many nights
of loneliness and pain,
I'd think of you and your body near,
and I'm happy once again.
I know there's times of anger,
frustration and of doubt,
But keep within your heart my dear
this promise made devout.
I will be here for you always,
no matter what the season.
To give to you the love you give
to me without a reason.
No more, no less, nor in between,
nor riches, fame, or treasure.
Just love , devotion, a faithful heart
and a life of simple pleasure.
You see you've won me, I am yours,
my heart it is your treasure.
Take me as I am, I'm lost
completely in your pleasure.
And as I walk this road of life
with you along my side,
my head held high, my spirit strong
my heart is filled with pride.
To know that you are mine alone,
your love for me is certain.
And will be 'till my last goodbye
when death brings down life's curtain.
Even after, when we rejoin
together in a few short years,
Our spirits bound, our love continues
Beyond this Veil of tears.
Forever after, never to end
I speak with this certainty,
You and I, together again
for all eternity.

SOMETIMES...
Sometimes I wonder what it is,
that has brought you near to me.
What did I do, what things I said,
That has caused our love to be.
I'm no one special, just a man,
walking this world alone.
Yet you have chosen me to be
the one, to call your own.
Sometimes I lay awake at night,
and count my lot in life,
as one big chance, a roll of dice,
that brought to me a wife.
What joy I have, what hope I sense,
"Why me?" I ask again.
A special gift so undeserved,
has washed away my pain.
Of a love torn heart, once despised,
and overflowing with sorrow.
Now is full of love and hope,
and dreams for a brighter tomarrow.
Sometimes I fear, that I'll awaken,
and find it's all a dream.
You'll be gone, an empty shell,
Will cause my heart to scream.
Out loud in pain, no more to feel
the love that lives within.
Just emptiness, coldness and the
fact...I'm alone..once again.
Yet everytime you come to me,
my faith and hope renew
You make the clouds go away,
and love me through and through.
Giving me the strength to I need,
to make it through the day,
and giving me the love I need,
at night when it's time to play.
Sometimes I want to yell out load,
from some high mountain top.
The fact that you are mine alone,
and then I will not stop.
But proclaim it over all the land,
to all those who will hear,
I love you Darling, you are mine,
and will be, year to year.
Sometimes I think of us together,
alone and intertwined,
our bodies close, our hearts as one,
in perfect union of the mind.
What a day that will be when I finally see,
you standing there for this.
A smile on your face, as I lift the veil
to seal us together with a kiss.
I'll take your hand and together you and I,
shall walk down the isle as one.
Husband and Wife, Helpmate and Helper
never to be undone.
