Hello Everyone!
Arrived home from our vacation Friday, June 19, 1998 at 3:00 pm.
We left on Monday at 8:00 with our second son and took him to the airport in St. Louis. We were a little crowded as he took an IBM computer back with him. I have pics of it being loaded on the airplane. SouthWest Airlines. We really enjoyed having him home for a couple days. It had been over a year since we saw him. and 2 1/2 years since he was here.
Also, we had our youngest grandson with us to go on our trip. We weren't sure how he would travel but his dad assured us he would do well and he did. He was so excited.
My husband, when going through the check got buzzed. LOL. His galouses and the steel arches in his tennis shoes. LOL. Last time it was his keys.
We watched several planes go and come. Too soon, it was time for our son to load on the plane.
He made the flight fine and so did the computer.
We left the airport and headed for KY, saving a few miles rather than returning and then going down. We spent the night When we left we decided to take their youngest son also. Ages 9 and 8 respectively. We were scheduled for lunch at a friend's home we hadn't seen for over 3 years. Had a wonderful lunch and the boys had a great time playing with the kids she was babysitting. A Very tasty meal. I will remember it for a long time. She made her special biscuits just for me. They are always so good!!!!
Then we headed for Alabama. We arrived about 10:30 pm but got turned around in Tuscaloosa and so it was after 11 before we got to where we were going. Pheobe and Linda were so happy to see us.
The next day we visited and the boys played. Bubba thought we were going to sleep in the lobby of the highrise for Seniors. LOL We also got a lot of rest. Which we needed.
The next morning we headed out and after we had been on the road awhile it began to rain and sometimes very hard. When we reached the edge of Tennesee we stopped at a Rest Area and took a video of the boys playing on a natural rock formation that had steps in it. There were lots of locust shells there.
We took our time and enjoyed the stop.
When we began our trip again, it began to rain again so hard that we couldn't see but a very few feet ahead of us. We could not see the tail lights ahead of us and barely the sides of the road. Outside of Columbia, Tn, at the exit/on ramp there was a bad accident, it appeared that a semi had come on-ramp and hit a car. They were supposed to have their lights on but many did not. We sat there a bit and decided to bacck up and go down the ramp and take a detour to Columbia and go North from there. We met many police cars, fire engines, ambulances and emergency equipment, even a heavy equipment was pulled out for use. We were amazed that the people in front of the vehicles would not move over so we moved over to the far right of our lane and they took lane to pass them. We do not know the result of the accident, yet.
We stopped in Columbia and thanked God for our safety as if we hadn't stopped at the rest area as long as we had, then we may have been involved. God is so good! We also asked for God to intervene for the victims.
The rest of our trip was fairly uneventful. We arrived at my sister's at about 4:00 and she was glad to see her son.
Our granson's mother was more happy to see him than he was to get home when we arrived home about 3:00 pm on Friday. lol
God was so good to us and we give HIM praise.
