Carl attended IVTech College, in Terre Haute, Indiana and worked at the Paris, Comm Hospital when he met and married Janice Wallace.

Carl Dean was born while Carl was employed there. Then Carl went to work for Paris Electric until they moved to Tolono and Carl began to work with the Electrical Union #601.

They moved into an apartment in Rantoul where they stayed until a few weeks before Carlita was born. They moved into the trailer court and lived there a few months.

Then they moved into a house in Rantoul. They were there for several months when they found a house in Gifford and really liked the community there. The people were so friendly.

Carl took special training about 5 years with the Union and graduated with a very high score. His score was above 98 and he was either first or second in his class. He looked forward to the time he could have his own business, though he owed the Union for about 4 more years of loyalty, before he could do this.

Carl enjoyed driving the church bus, making pick-ups for church, helping on Super Saturdays for the Restoration Urban Ministeries church.

His pastor there gives him a glowing praise for working in deprived areas.

Carl and Jan were very helpful when we were doing church remodeling. They are missed tremendously. We have many pictures of them helping us.

Janice went to Paris High School and was active in JA's. (Junior Achievement) Janice also led JA groups for the school after she graduated. She also was in Choir and participated in a contest for singing. She did very well. Then she attended IVTech for marketing. She did well and used her knowledge at the Paris Hospital and later at Kenny's Shoes in Champaign, at Market Place Mall. She had also worked for Collegiate Cap and Gown.

When Carlita Janelle was born Janice had to spend more time at home with the children.

Stephenie Denae Carlette was born while they lived at Gifford.

When Stephenie was 2 months old she had what would have been called Crib Death. Dean found her and they called 911. The paramedics revived her and sent her to the hospital. She had developed a virus and had to have anti-biotics through a machine. Later they even determined she had inherited sleep-apnia from her paternal grandfather. She had to be carried around with wires attached to her that would go off if she stopped breathing. Sometimes, Jan would have to stop by the roadside and shake her to get her to breathing again. Or, again, she would be in a store or a parking lot. Other times she had to have attention at home.

She outgrew the symptoms and we were all elated. We give praise to God.

Janice was preparing to make a Southern Gospel Tape as she sang at the Edgar County Fair Gospel Jubilee for two years in a row, she sang at the Senior Citizens high-rise building for entertainment. She had several engagements at churches, in Peoria, Paris, and Mattoon, Illinois then also Brazil, and Mansfield, Indiana, also, Summerset, Kentucky and others as well as for the Illinois Chapter Jaycees, at Springfield, Illinois.
She had engagements coming up in Ottumwa Iowa, Murray Kentucky, and a couple others that are forgotten.

Janice also, had an audition on August 14th,1994 in Nashville, Tennesee during a star seeking contest, but since she was pregnant and the next one was due in December immediately following a Ceasarian section birth she was not up to attending that one.

Janice was interested in doing and participating in church work. She taught classes as well as singing and instruction and VBS. She was great at encouraging others.

Dean, (Carl Dean) was 12 years old and had already gained enough credits in BoyScouts that he was to be the youngest Eagle Scout in America by May of 1996. Someone said there was an article in the Scout magazine but we have not seen it.

Dean was included in the gifted programs t school from about the 3rd grade. The academically alented class. He won achievements also, in singing, and playing the saxaphone. He sang in the Edgar County Fair Gospel Jubilee and the Gifford city celebrations. He was very intelligent. He had a great future ahead of him.

Carlita was only four and a half but she had attended Anna Huling Early Learning Center for two years. The gymnastics teacher wanted to train her because she was so talented. (Maybe she could have gone to the Olympics? Another Mary Lou Retton?) She could sing and entered in heartily at church. She knew the tunes and could carry one and also took very good care of the microphones.

Stephenie Denae Carlette, was 8 1/2 months old and didn't have much time but she had already been known to hum a tune in her sleep. It was very precious. She also became very attached to her mother the last few weeks.

This family contributed a lot to their own family, their relative families, their community, their hurches, school and work area and who knows what the future would have held for them?

Carl was 37 and Jan was 31. No one can ever replace them nor the positions that they held in our hearts and in the Community.

Be aware, Life is uncertain, we are not promised a tomorrow. They had no warning, although, they did certain things that unknowingly showed there was a plan in their lives. Life is to short to hold grudges or to take for granted. Carl leaves 3 brothers, a niece and nephew and Jan leaves 3 brothers, a niece and 3 nephews. They left both sets of parents.

One of her favorite songs was:" Burdens Are Lifted Away!." Dean and Carli sang: "I Learned About Jesus In Grandma's Rocking Chair." And Dean would sing, "Thank You!" by Ray Boltz. He also loved Carmen.
