This area gives an overveiw of the game and tells you how to use the map thing.
Overveiw
Aboard a ship bound for Hyrule, Link is caught in a violent storm. The fury of the storm batters is too much for the ship, and Link finds himself marooned on the island of Koholint. The island has long been known for the gigantic Egg that crowns its central mountain. Legend says that a mythical creature, the Wind Fish, sleeps deep within the Egg.
As Link, you must solve the mystery behind the Wind Fish Egg and the island of Koholint. You will find dozens of new items and many friends to help you on your journey. The game features a 256-screen overworld with more than eight different levels to explore. You can talk to all of the island's inhabitants for clues about the island. Link's Awakening is the most challenging Zelda game to date!
Map-Grid System
Directions to map locations are often given in coordinates, such as "3-F" or "14-B." These coordinates refer to locations on a 16 by 16 square grid; you can draw one at home for quick reference to places in Link's Awakening.
To make a grid, take a piece of graph paper and mark off a large square that is sixteen squares left to right, and sixteen squares top to bottom. Number one through sixteen, from left to right, along the bottom of the grid. Mark the grid from top to bottom with letters A to P. When you see a map location listed in directions to a place or item, put a dot on the grid according to the number and letter given. Check the accuracy of your map by comparing it to the map that the game displays when you press the Select button.
