Route 1
Not much to do here. Be sure to talk to the guy, and get the potion. Oh yeah, wild Pokemon only appear in high grass. You can find wild Rattatas and Pidgeys here. \par
Viridian City
You are going to want to talk to everybody, but before you do that go to the Pokemart. Here you will be given a parcel, and told that you have to bring this to Proffesor Oak. Once you have this, go back to Pallet Town. In the lab, and after you give the parcel to Professor Oak, you will be given the Pokedex. It is not very useful, but can be. Once you reach Viridian City, again the road north is unblocked, and you can search the northern funny looking tree for a potion. I suggest that you buy some Poke Balls, and capture one Rattata and one Pidgey. If you head west from Viridian City there is a patch of grass where you can find a male and female Nidoran, and a Spearow. (note... if you head west more you will encounter a battle with Gary. Dont do this until you have a decent leveled Rattata, Pidgey, and Main Pokemon.) When all is said and done, head north.
Route 2/Viridian Forest
Route 2 offers little, in terms of items, but it does have many different places to go as soon as you have the ability to cut those funny looking trees. In the forest you can find an Antidote, Poke Ball, and a Potion. In the forest you will encounter 3 Pokemon trainers, none of which are hard, and you will recieve, 60, 90, and 70 bucks. The last trainer, if you talk to him again, he will mention looking for lost items. Right next to him is a hidden potion. In the forest you will want to fight, and capture, a Weedle, Caterpie, and Pikachu. You will also fight Metapods, and Kakunas, they both are upgraded Weedles or Caterpies, and are not worth the trouble. At level 7 Weedles and Caterpies upgrade, and keep all of their abilities, and count as both Weedles/Kakunas or Caterpies/Metapods.)
Pewter City
This is a basic town, but hosts your first boss. I will let you figure out how to fight him, but I suggest that you are on a decent level. In the gym you will recieve 220 dollars from Brock's servant, a BOULDERBADGE, 1386 dollars, and a TM34 from Brock. That is the basics for Pewter City.
Route 3
There are lots of trainers here that allow you to boost up your experience and cash flow. I also suggest that you capture a Jigglypuff, so you can update your pokedex. In the northern part of route 3, there is a Poke Center, you can buy a Magikarp Pokemon. I dont suggest this, because it will cost you 500 dollars, and it does not provide any usefulness until it upgrades at level 20. You have a chance, later on in the game, to get one for free, and that is when I suggest you aquire it. Don't waste your money.
Mt. Moon
This is a pretty big cave. Here is a list of items to find. First floor, TM12, 110, 210, 275, 100, 165, 150, 350, Potion, Potion, Rare Candy, Escape Rope, Moon Stone. First stairs, 330, HP Up. Second stairs, 360, TM01. Last Stairs, 480, 390, 300, your choice of two fossils. Just make sure that you talk/fight everyone, and capture at least one Zubat, Clefairy(last stairs), Paras, and a Geodude.
