How to Enter Catfish's Maw

FIND THE LOST GHOST
Before you enter Catfish's Maw, you must find the Lost Ghost and take him back to his resting place. To find the Lost Ghost, explore the pond in the Animal Village at map location 14-0.

TAKE THE GHOST HOME
After you find the Lost Ghost, he will ask you at take him home. Go to the house at map location 7-P. To get there from Sale's Banana Shop, go right three screens and down one screen. Go inside the house to let the ghost look around. After a few moments, he will ask you to take him to his grave at map location 5-G. To get there from Crazy Tracy's Shop, go left one screen and down three screens. Climb the ladder on the left to find the grave.

ENTER CATFISH'S MAW
To find Catfish's Maw after you return the Lost Ghost to his grave, go to Martha's Bay at map location 10-N. To get there from the Animal Village, go left one screen, up one screen and left one screen, then enter the water. Swim down one screen, left one screen and down one screen to find the entrance. Use the A Button to dive as you swim next to the big rocks along the left side of the palace to find a tunnel. Go through the tunnel to gain access to the palace.

How to Complete Catfish's Maw

DEFEAT THE LARGE SKELETON: MASTER STALFOS
To defeat Master Stalfos, the large skeleton, you must use your Sword and Bombs. Strike Master Stalfos with your Sword to leave him in a jumble of bones. While he is down, quickly place a Bomb on the pile of bones. You will fight him four times in Catfish's Maw.

GET THE HOOKSHOT
To receive the Hookshot, you must fight Master Stalfos four times. To find Master Stalfos for the first time, go left two rooms from the entrance of Catfish's Maw and up three rooms.

To find Master Stalfos for the second time, start where you fought him the first time. Go right one room, up one room, left one room, then back to the right one room. Push a button on the floor to open the right door. Go down one room, back up one room and then right one room.

To find Master Stalfos for the third time, start where you fought him the second time. Go left one room, up two rooms, left one room and up one room.

To find Master Stalfos for the last time, start at the entrance of Catfish's Maw. Go left three screens and take the stairs. When you exit the passage, defeat the final Master Stalfos to receive the Hookshot. If the final Master Stalfos is not in the room, you haven't defeated the first three versions of him. Go back and defeat all three, then return.

GET THE NIGHTMARE KEY
The Nightmare Key can only be found after you get the Hookshot. From the entrance of Catfish's Maw, go left two rooms, up three rooms, right one room, up one room, left one room and up one room. Press the A Button to dive into the dark water and find a side-scrolling area. Exit the side-scrolling area to the left, then use the Hookshot to pull the bridge across the gap. The chest on the other side holds the Nightmare Key.

FIND THE BOSS: SLIME EEL
To find Slime Eel from the entrance of the level, go left two rooms, up one room, left one room and up one room. Use the Hookshot to pull the bridge across, then go up one room and left one room to fight the Gohmas. Hit the Gohmas with arrows while their eyes are open to defeat them, then open the door to the right. Go right one room and take the stairs. When you exit the passage, go left one room and up one room to find Slime Eel.

DEFEAT SLIME EEL
To defeat Slime Eel, stand in a corner and wait for it to stick its head out. When it does, stand directly in front and use the Hookshot to draw it toward you. You will pull out either the real Slime Eel or an imposter. The real Slime Eel has a flashing heart. To defeat the imposter, hit it in the tail twice with your Sword. To defeat the real one, you must hit its heart approximately 12 times with your Sword.
