LESSON 4

Pattern: Verb-Subject
a.)
In most sentences in Kapampangan, the verb comes before the
subject such as in the following samples:

Mamiru ya. - (Nagbibiro siya.) He is joking.
Titiman ya. - (Ngumingiti siya.) He is smiling.
Magobra ya. - (Nagtatrabaho siya.) He is working.
Susulat ya. - (Sumusulat siya.) He is writing.

Now, using the patterns above as guide, create sentences
using the following verbs:
mamaco (leaving)
magcanta (singing)
mangadi (praying)
mamialung (playing)
matudtud (sleeping)
maglutu (cooking)
magsalita (speaking)
teterac (dancing)
lalacad (walking)
mamulai (running)
magquera (lying down)
miminum (drinking)
mandilu (taking a shower)
lulundag (jumping)
papainawa (resting)
tutucnang (stopping)
magumpisa (starting)
lulucluc (sitting down)

b.) Now, study the sample below:

Mangan na ca. - (Kumain ka na.) Eat now. or You will eat now.
Mangan na ca? - (Kakain ka na ba?) Are you going to eat now?

You will notice that the same word arrangement is followed when
the statement is changed into a question, the punctuation marks
being the only difference.

Now using the pattern above, create similar sentences using the
verbs below:
magobra (to work) matudtud (to sleep)
maco (to leave) maglutu (to cook)
magcanta (to sing) magsalita ( to speak)
mangadi (to pray) tumerac (to dance)
mamialung (to pray lumacad (to walk)
magquera (to lie down) mamulai (to run)
minum (to drink) mandilu (to take a shower)
ticdo (to stand) lundag ( to jump)
painawa (to rest) tucnang (to stop)
magumpisa (to start) munta (to go)

c.) Let us further modify the sentence, this time by
changing the pronoun (subject):

Mangan na ca. (Kumain ka na.) Eat now.
Mangan na cu. (Kakain na ako.) I will eat now.
Mangan ne. (Kakain na siya.) He will eat now.

Now, change the verb "mangan" to other verbs such as
the examples given in this lesson, or to some other verbs
you may find in your dictionary. See if you can now be
on your own.
