Lesson 10
This lesson comes in two parts.
I. Pattern: Verb - Subject - Modifier
Study the following sentences and try to discover
the pattern:
Munta cu qng pisamban. (Pupunta ako sa simbahan.) I will go to church.
Munta cu qng escuela. (Pupunta ako sa paaralan.) I will go to school.
Munta cu qng ilug. (Pupunta ako sa ilog.) I will go to the river.
Munta cu qng palenque. (Pupunta ako sa palengke.) I will go to market.
Munta cu qng dagat. (Pupunta ako sa dagat.) I will go to the ocean.
Munta cu qng caquewan. (Pupunta ako sa gubat.) I will go to the woods.
Munta cu Menila. (Pupunta ako sa Maynila.) I will go to Manila.
Munta cu San Fernando. (Pupunta ako sa San Fernando.) I will go to Sn.Fdo.
Munta cu Malacanang. (Pupunta ako sa Malacanang.) I will go to Malacanang.
Munta cu U.S.T. (Pupunta ako sa U.S.T.) I will go to U.S.T.
Munta cu queng Domingo. (Pupunta ako sa Linggo.) I will go on Sunday.
Munta cu queng Septiembre (Pupunta ako sa Setyembre.) I will go in September
Munta cu queng piesta. (Pupunta ako sa piesta.) I will go during the fiesta
Munta cu bucas. (Pupunta ako bukas.) I will go tomorrow.
Munta cu pota. (Pupunta ako mamaya.) I will go sometime soon.
By following the patterns above, create similar sentences. Do you notice
in the first group of sentences that because the modifiers (which are all
prepositional phrases) contain common nouns, we use "qng"? Do you notice
too in the second group of sentences the omission of "qng", because the
noun in the phrase is a proper noun? Do you notice another change in the
third group of sentences? The first and second groups as you will notice,
designate places, while the third one designates time.
Now, let us try to add some more words to these sentences.
Munta cu qng pisamban bucas. - I will go to church tomorrow.
Munta cu qng escuela pota. - I will go to school sometime soon.
Munta cu qng ilug queng Domingo. - I will go to the river on Sunday.
Munta cu qng palenque queng piesta. I will go to the market during the fiesta.
Munta cu qng pisamban San Fernando bucas. I will go to the church in San
Fernando tomorrow.
Munta cu qng escuela Menila pota. I will go to school in Manila sometime soon.
Now try doing the same thing with the other sentences.
After a lot of practice on that, try using the phrases you learned in
previous lessons.
Ex.: Munta cu qng pisamban a malati queng Domingo. I will go to the little
church on Sunday.
Munta cu qng escuelang maragul bucas. I will go to the big school tomorrow.
Now, try to make sentences containing more modifiers added to the main
sentences given by referring to previous lessons. This should be easy.

II. Pattern: Verb - Subject - Indirect Object - Direct Object
Study the following:
Pasaliwan nang tinape. - Would you sell me some bread, or , May I buy some bread.
Pasaliwan nang gatas. - Would you sell me some milk, or, May I buy some milk.
Pasaliwan nang aslam. - Would you sell me vinegar, or, May I buy vinegar.
Pautangan nang tinape. - May I buy some bread on credit.
Pautangan nang gatas. - May I buy some milk on credit.
Paraman nang cualta. - Would you lend me some money, or May I borrow some money.
Paraman nang sucle. - Would you lend me a comb, or May I borrow a comb.
Dinan nang chiclets. - Would you give me some chiclets, or May I have some chiclets.
Write sentences following the pattern above, and using the same verbs,
pasaliwan, paraman and dinan.
All the samples above are colloquial and shortcuts. A word has been omitted
and it is the word "mucu" which is said to be "understood", just like the
"understood you" in imperative sentences in English. For instance, "Pasaliwan
nang tinape." is actually "Pasaliwan mu na cung tinape." And "Paraman nang
sucle." is actually "Paraman mu na cung sucle."
The following are sentences that follow that same pattern:
Sali mu na cung balasenas. - Would you buy me some eggplants.
Gawa mu na cung manica. - Would you make me a doll.
Icua mu na cung imalan. - Would you get me some clothes.
Pili mu na cung malulot. - Would you pick some ripe ones for me.
Ilutu mu na cung sigang. - Would you cook me some "sigang"
Piritu mu na cung ebon. - Would you fry me some eggs.
Pagdala mu nacung lulanan. - Would you bring me a container.
Atsanan mu na cung tualia. - Would you throw me a towel.
Pacanan mu na cung lelot. - Would you feed me some porridge.
Laco mu na cu maputing buac. - Would you pull off for me my gray hair
Talip mu na cung atbo. - Would you pare me some sugar cane.
Sime mu na cung paro. - Would you peel off for me some shrimps.
Dacap mu na cung asan. - Would you catch me some fish.
Sunquit mu na cung manga. - Would you hook some mangoes for me.
Atdanan mu na cung sabo. - Would you bring over for me some soup.
Yalbe mu na cung cine. - Would you take me to the movies.
Gamusan mu na cu gulot. - Would you scratch my back.
Apisan mu na cu gulot. - Would you rub my back.
Masahan mu na cu pago. - Would you massage my shoulders.
Paintun mu na cung apangan. - Would you find me anything that I can eat.
Now, try modifying these sentences using other nouns as direct objects.
You can also omit the "na" in each sentence, and the sense becomes
less mild and it will be more of a command in that case.

Unless you feel that the lessons you've had are already adequate, you may
want to take some extra lessons. Sorry, if you still have to take some more
lessons after the first 10. This is just like finishing a bachelor's degree
and wanting to pursue a master's :)
