| The local stores sells everything from groceries to wine, beer and spirits. The local beer "Phoenix" is brewed on the Island and has proved to be very popular amongst the local residents and the tourists. Green Island white rum and spice are also made on the Island. This is an extremely popular drink for those who prefer spirits. You cannot possible go to Mauritius without trying one of these drinks. For the very daring - try the local Mauritian rum. This is something like the South Africa "Witblitz" or "Mampoer". Imported South African KWV and French wines can be bought very cheaply in the local stores. You are advised against drinking the local tap water. Bottled water is available in most stores. |
