Reports
*******
July 20th v Anstey Rangers away 3-0
A good opening match in which many new faces met,
and gelled pretty well together.
The 3 goals were scored by Aguter, Ducille, and
Pearce.

July 29th v Leyton Orient home 1-1
A crowd of about 500 saw an even and competative
game in which Leyton paraded a side of mostly
reserve and youth players. It took until 68 mins
for Leyton Orient to score Gough the scorer, and
on 81 minutes Balch equalised for the Sports.

July 31st v Tonbridge home 3-0
The magnificent Priory Lane ground home to the
Sports resplendid on a hot sunny Saturday afternoon
saw the Sports romp home to was an easy win against
Southern League Tonbridge.
Tonbridge in yellow were certainly not fit and did
not appear up for the match with only returning Ian
Mawson putting in much work. Langney Sports, the
fitter, the faster, and with a better understanding
of the game played to their strengths, and in the
16th minute treated their fans to the first goal
Matt Allen powering in to put the Sports 1-0 up.
By half time Langney had laid their stall out and
in the second half appart from a 15 minute spell
dissapointing Angels had no counter.
On 75 minutes a pin point cross saw John Snelgrove
bang in the second goal, and after a penalty miss
by Tonbridge this finished them off. Still Sports
attacked despite the searing heat, and a superb
volley from 20 yards by Agutter capped a good
afternoons work for Langney Sports.

August 5th
v Crawley Town home 3-0
Another terrific result for Langney Sports in the
build up toward the 1999-00 season, against the
senior non league side, Town, who are serious
contenders for promotion to the Conference this
season.
It took barely 8 minutes for John Snelgrove to
open the Crawley defence, and again on 37 minutes
to set up a possible fight back by Town. However
Sports held well, and another goal was added to
them a 3-0 win, by Kneller on 63 minutes.

August 14th
v Portfield 4-2 att 241
A blistering first half, of electric football
ended this match as a competition by half time
as Snellgrove opened the scoring on 13 minutes
a header from a pinpoint Bowles cross.
On 15 minutes young Matt Allen showed class by
getting on the end of a Pierce shot rebounded
to ram home Sports second.
The superiority continued as Allen, again this
time from an Agutter cross, landed his second
and Sports third goal, and not to be put off
he bundled his was through the Portfield defence
and ended his scorching run with a shot to claim
the matchball and his hatrick. Half Time 4-0
Langney Sports continued well in the second half
but substitutions changed the pattern, and on
68, and 70 minutes Portfields Poulton scored to
pull the score back to respectability at 4-2.
However Sports were not going to give up the three
points and shored up the defence to remain 4-2 up.

record breaking run and end their hopes for a FA
Vase run, as Redhill took the game to Sports.
Matching where neccessary a well controlled show

deep into the time to kill off Langney Sports.

September 15th
v Hassocks away 1-0

the closing stages it was Snellgrove who popped up
to score the vital winner in the 87th minute.

September 18th
v Havant & Waterlooville FA Cup away 2-2
With the keeper out plus Willard, Barham, and the
enthusiastic Agutter failing fitness tests it was a
depleted Langney Sports that took to the field.
early pressure from Havant put the defence under
the cosh, and Wyatt opened for the side on 20 mins,
Taylor added the second for H & W on 32 minutes,
then promptly was sent off for an exchange of words
with the referee on half time.
The second half was a different story with Langney
pushing forward, Simon Colbran opened on 71 with a
well taken low header, and eight minutes later a
run lead to Phillips scoring to equalise.
The nerve wrangling not over a penalty was conceeded
on the final whistle, but Oxle saved magnificently
to keep the score at 2-2 and a replay at home on
Tuesday.

fell loose, the first half was an even affair, but Sports
were even slower in the second half, giving their Isthmian
League opponents to much respect.
The only goal of the game came on 63 minutes when a cross
found Fisher leaping up with Langney defenders and reaching
the ball first to head home.A brief flurry late in the game
was however not enough to equalise, and Sports cup run
was ended.
