__Now I will not claim to have a degree in nutrition...But I have some education in that area, knowledge and a great deal of experience. I can explain alot of the very basic principles of nutrition. I am going to begin studying it because when I caught something that was antibiotic resistant it is the only thing that helped me.
__From the age of 14 to 22 I smoked very heavily as my parents did. When I began smoking it was considered to be healthy and attractive. Most of the movie stars and many great athletes smoked. A year after I started there was found a direct correlation with cancer and smoking. At age 22 I had indeterminative irregular cells and had to have a minor in office treatment. It scared me enough I began to try to quit smoking seriously.
__I began exercising, quit taking the pill, began drinking water, fruit, juice, milk, began eating a healthier diet, took nutritional supplements, and began exercising. Eventually I joined a gym where I began swimming, weight training, aerobics, sitting in whirlpools, saunas, and the steam room. I remember scratching my rib cage in the sauna and looking at my nails, they had a dark tarry look to them. I was sweating out the residual toxins and poisons from smoking from my lungs right through my skin.
__I had worn makeup very heavily since I was 14 and my shirt I ran in after six months of running and not wearing makeup had a permanent makeup ring around the collar....So bad I had I had to throw it away. I no longer wear makeup and many types of makeup have proven carcinogens in them.
__I quit working for eight months and worked on my health. I noticed while I was working out the people around me, even the smokers were beginning to look younger. And I watched my body as it began to rebuild itself. My skin, teeth, nails began looking less yellowish from smoking. My ability to breath was improving. Most of all my allergies diminished greatly.
__When I was 36 and substitute teaching I had a 17 year old trying to date me at the highschool without me encouraging him...It was quite scarey to be in the parking lot with a half dressed attractive young man...whom I was concerned about his ego and my job at the same time. So I asked him about his impressive car, and then mentioned my NEPHEW had one like it... Have a nice day. MY heart did not stop pounding for 15 minutes as all I thought was if anyone saw that and it was misinterpreted I might go to jail...incidentally I do not get called to work there anymore...but I have basically given up teaching at least for now.
__I use to work in a night club where the air was thick with smoke like fog...that is probably a great deal of what caused my breathing problems. Second hand smoke is very very bad for people...especially in a very enclosed environment. I noticed after quitting smoking when I went out I could not get the smell out of my lungs for a few days.
__Now I am going to explain to you what I learned while being trained for a couple years in medical technology...I have a BA in education now...I lost interest in medical technology after working with poor underpriveledged children after accidentally moving into a crack neighborhood while in school at SPJC and USF.
__For evolution (God's creation as my sister would say) higher level organisms to develop there was a need for oxygen to be produced. At one time there was no oxygen in the atmosphere. Metabolism without oxygen does not produce as much energy as metabolism with oxygen. All you have to do is try to light anything without oxygen and you will see it is impossible to light it. That is how organisms that use oxygen work..it is a type of burning or oxidation process (I am referring to Tabers and Mosby's Medical Encyclopedias to help me). In this process the oxygen combines with a substance and energy is released. I studied this in Cell biology and it is quite complicated for the energy is released slowly in a series of reactions which utilize the energy and does not cause a burn type of high energy release.
__Organisms - living things which utilize oxygen are called aerobes...oxygen users for metabolitic processes. Organims which do not utilize oxygen for metabolism fall into many categories but are often unable to live in even low oxygen conditions so they live deep within the earth normally and are called anaerobes (have metabolism in the absence of air).
There is a full range of anaerobes from
- Those who can live with or without oxygen
- use or not use oxygen for metabolism
- these are called falcultative anaerobes
- Those who can tolerate oxygen but do not utilize it
- anaerobes
- Those whom oxygen is poisonous to
- which are fastidious anaerobes.
__As an aerobic organism we need to sustain conditions in which we are in an aerobic condition...such as eat well enough we can produce red blood cells, exercise aerobically to increase oxygen and blood flow to our tissues. Any time you find yourself short of breath you are quite possibly going into an anaerobic phase...which our body can compensate for but it can cause muscle cramping or injury to yourself if you have not built your body system up for it. It is ok to run if you can walk well first...but you need to study it so you do not get hurt...this is what I have learned from my sister the aerospace physiologist. I am
going to get her up online here at Max Pages hopefully soon to discuss exercise.
__Iron in your blood in the form of hemoglobin in your red blood cells captures and carries oxygen from your lungs around to your body cells that need it to carry out its daily functions...such as eat and work. Without oxygen your cells sort of starve and die, or get very very sick. That is where I was at. My cells were getting sick. Tars from any type of smoke tend to coat and cover the lining of the lungs such that oxygen has a difficult time getting to the blood which flows through your lungs and exchanges carbon dioxide for it.
__Since I quit smoking and began eating a better diet I have had no further signs of aberrant cells. I do not have pneumonia every winter as I did when I smoked the last three years.
__When a person tries to quit or change anything in their habits they have many things they have to overcome which are a part of what creates habit. First it is easier to substitute something better than to just quit. Many many times I tried to quit smoking but could not because I did not find an adequate substitute. My sister who was very athletically involved at the competitive level taught me how to exercise. She got me out walking. Eventually after a month I began riding a bicycle. Then after awhile she took me out and taught me how to stretch and run. This all did not happen over night. But I have been quit smoking now 16 years. Before I began eating a better diet and exercising to help relax me I was unable to sustain being quit for more than three months. There are many other things I have learned to help me relax/quit smoking such as talk with friends, go out and have healthy fun, chewing gum, and doing art. I have gotten quit good lately. All of these are things I have acquired over time that work for me. For some people it may be something as simple as knitting or golfing.
__What happens when you try to change your habit such as smoking or diet is the very body you have built to live in the conditions that are not so good for your health begins to revolt, and the things which helped keep you alive...your anaerobic microbial count begins to die...I like to call these the devils...even though they helped keep you alive in a very poor state of health they also helped keep you addicted to your life style such that it is difficult to change your habits. When you begin to add oxygen to your body they begin to die. I like to call these disease organisms the devil because it was almost like having the devil on my shoulder. |
