You may use a calculator!
1) Archimedes, Euclid, Newton and Pythagoras all took the same test. The average score of all four candidates was 16. Archimedes and Euclid had an average of 16, Archimedes and Pythagoras had an average of 13 whilst Euclid and Pythagoras had an average of 18. What was Newton's score?

3) Which mathematician from the past should have won the SAGA TROPHY?
4) The price of a second-hand car is displayed (in pounds) on 4 cards on the windscreen. Each card shows one digit. The card with the thousands digit blew off in the wind, so the apparent price of the car dropped to exactly one forty-ninth of the intended value. What was the intended price (in pounds) of the car?

OK, they were some questions obtained from the National PopMaths Web Quiz 2000 (http://npm.popmaths.com/getquizanswers.pl)
Here are some more number puzzles though, in the meantime.
EIGHT IS GREAT:
1 x 8 + 1 = 9
12 x 8 + 2 = 98
123 x 8 + 3 = 987
1234 x 8 + 4 = 9876
12345 x 8 + 5 = 98765
123456 x 8 + 6 = 987654
1234567 x 8 + 7 = 9876543
12345678 x 8 + 8 = 98765432
123456789 x 8 + 9 = 987654321
Can you add 8 eights to make 1000? It can be done. Think about it!
FINDING SOMEONES AGE:
Wanna find out how old someone is? Try your maths teacher!
Ask them to put into a calculator the number of the month they were born in (1=January, 2=February etc)
Now multiply by 2
Add 5
Multiply by 50
Tell them to add their age
Subtract 365
Now ask them to give you the calculator back.
All you do now is add on 115.
Now, their age is on the right, and the month they were born in on the left. Try it on yourself and see!!

FIVE TWOS:
Using only brackets, +, -, x, and / (divide), make the numbers 0 to 9. You have to use five twos.
For example: 0 would be, 2- (2/2)-(2/2)
I have used five twos, and if you work that sum out, you get 0. Try 1 to 9 now!
CATS AND MICE:
A farmer's wife has cats to keep down the mice. She has 3 cats, who are very busy during the night. If the 3 cats can catch 10 mice in 10 minutes, how many more cats would be needed to catch 60 mice in 60 minutes?

2) 40g of Edam is placed on a trolley on a slope, and the velocity of the trolley going down the slope at point A is 12m/s.
At point B, the velocity of the trolley is 34m/s. The slope is 1432m long and is raised on some books which are 0.09m each. There are 6700 books. How much weight of Edam is there 30m down the slope?
How much weight of Edam is there 17 seconds down the slope at point B?
3) I square a number. I take a third of the number I first thought of, and I cube it. The answers are the same. What was the original number?
4) I turn to a page in a book. The number of words on that page is exactly 13 times the number of the page. Both the number of words on the page and the page number are divisible by 11. Divide the number of words on that page by 11 and take away 14, you get the page number. What is the page number?
