Its obvious that Nintendo are bending to pressure by top selling games on rival consoles, which encompass blood, gore and general mature ingredients. With the likes of the Turok and Resident Evil series, Carmageddon, WinBack, Shadow Man and many others, the N64 has matured immensely from the days of its older brother the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.
Don't ask her to do the ironing
The latest screen shots (at www.rareware.com) from Perfect Dark now depict a darker side of Joanna Dark, the heroine of this first person shooter. As you can see from these screen shots, chunks of meat are blown from enemies bodies and blood letting is now an added element. Also, the enemies now have speech that gives them a more human touch. When you shoot some, another nearby enemy may say, You killed my friend! Or, I never liked him anyway. Dying enemies will say things like, Why me? Or, I have a family! Poor buggers. A bullet will soon shut them up.
Let's talk turkey
Another surprise for us was the fact that the bots (or simulants as Rare like to call them), are now super clever. Theyll run away when injured and call for back up, hide behind objects for cover, organise sieges and fake injury. You can even shoot weapons from their hands and watch them beg for mercy. Some will ask for sympathy, then when youre feeling all warm and fuzzy, theyll rip out a handgun and pop a cap in yo ass.
Perfect Dark is just that, perfect...
