Dark Arts
The "dark" side of magic. Practiced by Dark wizards, usually who are up to no good, such as Voldemort.

Dementor
A tall, robed creature who has no soul. Dementors are horrid things, and guard the prizion of Azakaban. Probobly the best definithion is one given to us by Professer Lupin : "They breed in the darkest, filthiest places, they create decay and despair, they drain peace, hope, happiness out of any human who comes too close to them… Even muggles feel their presence, though they can't see them. Get too near a dementor and every good feeling, every happy memory will be sucked out of you. You'll be left with nothing but the worst experiences of your life."
The dementors do literally suck your soul out, in an act know as the Dementor''s Kiss.
After Sirius Black escaped from Azakaban and was suspected to be going to Hogwarts, dementors were sent to guard the school. Unfortuatly for Harry, he kept fainting whenever he saw one; on a train, at a quidditch match. However porfesser Lupin taught him how to conjur up a Patronus, the only thing that can keep a dementor away.

Diagon Alley
A big, underground shopping alley in London for wizards. Diagon Alley is where most Hogwarts stundents shop to get their back-to-school supplys, in stores such as Flourish and Botts, Quality Quidditch Supplies, Gambol and Japes Wizarding Joke Shop, Madam MAlkin Robes for All Occasions, and Gringotts Bank
Diagon Alley is only accesable by pushng in a brick in theLeaky Cauldron tavern.

Firebolt
Quality Quidditch Supplies' ad for the Firebolt

The fastest, most technology advanced broomstick. From the advertisment in Quality Quidditch Supplies : "This state of the art racing broom sports a streamlined, superfine handle of ash, treated with a diamond-hard polish and hand-numbered with its own registration number. Each individually selected birch twig in the broomtail has been honed to aerodynamic perfection, giving the Firebolt unsupassable balance and pinpoint perfection. The Firebolt has an acceleration of 150 miles per hour in ten seconds and incorporates an unbreakeable Braking Charm."
After his Nimbus 2000 was smashed by the Whomping Willow, Harry received a Firebolt from Sirius Black.

Floo Powder
A shiny powder used for travelling. By taking a handfull, throwing it into a fireplace, stepping into the subsequent green flames, and saying where you want to go, you can be transported there almost instantly.

A bookstore in Diagon Alley that sells everything from Magical Me to The Monster Book of Monsters.

Gringotts
The main wizard bank, it is securer than Azakaban prison.

Knight Bus
Along with Floo Powder, the Knight Busis aa popular way to travel. Just stick out your wand, and a triple decker purple bus pulls up to where you are. Instead of seats, the bus has beds, and you sleep while travelling. Because of this, you can pay extra for cocoa, a hot water bottle or a toothbrush.

The 1,000 year old Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is the best in the land. It is made up of four student houses, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, Grryfindor, and Slytherin. Each house has approximatly 80 people in it, with ten people per year (grade level). Notable teachers include Minerva McGonagall, Serverus Snape, Rubeus Hagrid, and headmaster Albus Dumbledore.

By tapping the piece of parchment with your wand, and saying "I solomly swear I am up to no good", and extensive map of Hogwarts appears, complete with secret passages, and cool little labled dots that shows you where everything is.

Muggles
Muggles are non-wizard people like you, me, Bob Dole, and the Dursleys. Many muggles, since they cannot comprehend it, are afraid of hate magic.

Mudblood
A very rude, slang term used to denote someone who is not of pure wizard blood, such as Hermione, whose parents are both Muggles.

Nimbus 2000
A very powerful and fast broom. As a seeker in Quidditch, Harry had a Niumbus 2K until the Whomping Willow destroyed it.

Nimbus 2001
