The Kapampangan Cultural Heritage Society, U.S.A
is an association whose main goal is to propagate
the rich cultural heritage of Pampangans in all
walks of life and in all fields of learning. To
achieve success in this, it is urgently inviting
all dedicated Kapampangan writers, historians,
researchers, and the like, to jump into the
bandwagon and be with us in pursuing this noble
cause. Although this is not a "do or die" venture,
the level of loyalty involved in it can not be
downplayed, and only those with patriotic feelings
in their hearts are expected to heed this call.
The basic criteria for membership into the fold are:
1. An overwhelming pride in being a Pampangan -
loving his province (balen a tibuan) more than
any other province, loving his language (Amanung
Sisuan) more than any other language.
2. Involvement in worthy causes or projects
(completed or ongoing) that help or will help in
the lives of and in the promotion of the cultural
heritage of, Pampangans*. (*loosely speaking, all
Kapampangan-speaking people regardless of where
they are from)
Membership, however, is not confined to Kapampangan
speakers. John A. Larkin, for instance, is an American.
But he made a tremendous contribution to Pampanga
when he wrote the historical book, THE PAMPANGANS.
For that alone, he can qualify to be a member.
Another American, Michael Foreman, presently a
University professor in Hawaii, wrote during his
stint with the Peace Corps in the Philippines the
book, KAPAMPANGAN DICTIONARY. For that, he, too,
is eligible to be a member. The well-known
national artist, Nick Joaquin, a Tagalog, wrote
the inspiring saga, THE AQUINOS OF TARLAC wherein
he highlighted the background history of the home
of the Aquinos, which is Kapampangan country.
For that, he also could qualify for membership.
All red-blooded true-blue Pampanguenos should admire
these three authors in that despite the fact that
Kapampangan is not their native language, they made
remarkable contributions to Pampanga and put
it on the map! Then there are those Pampangans
who have become famous or highly successful in
their own line of endeavor and carry the tag of
being Kapampangan. These people with their
outstanding accomplishments help enhance the
glory of their province and can therefore be
qualified for membership. And last but not
least, there are those Pampangans who do a
great deal of research on either their province
or their language and publish their works in
their awesome websites for all the world to
see! Under this category we have Andro Camiling
and Armando Regala, to name a few who also meet
the requirements. These are people who champion
the cause of Kapampangan as adjudged by the
contents of their websites.
If your love for Kapampangan is "fervor burning"
and would want to join us in this noble cause,
now is the time to sign up and become a member.

or city. There is no membership fee! Just your
time and energy. Yes, that's all it takes! So
come on now, my dear compatriots or cabalen!
Altogether, we can hitch the Kapampangan wagon
to a star! Yes, we can show the world the
"GLORY THAT IS PAMPANGA"! Luid ya ing balen!
Biba Kapampangan!
The main goal of this cultural society is:
To save and promote Kapampangan culture, especially its language,
and to do research work so as to be able to retrieve lost aspects of said culture.
This goal can be achieved by fulfilling the following objectives:
1. To involve and utilize the Kapampangan language in the education of students in the Kapampangan region. Kapampangan should replace the national language as medium of instruction in all elementary schools, public and private. In addition to that, it should
be made one of the subjects in the curriculum from Kindergarten to Fourth Year High.
2. To induce love and pride for the Kapampangan language on all its speakers, especially those in Pampanga. This can be realized by encouraging them to speak with one another in Kapampangan at home and everywhere else.
3. To intellectualize Kapampangan through literary writing. To achieve this,
its members are encouraged to build their vocabulary on the language and taught how to write messages in it. Those that have attained a fair degree of skill in writing are
encouraged to write poetry, essays, plays and fiction.
4. To get every member familiarized with the literature of great writers in
Kapampangan, as well as know the history of the province and its people.
This is achieved through research work and workshops and through simple reading
assignments.
5. To foster unity and friendship on among all Kapampangans.
This can be done by inviting other Kapampangans in one's area to join the group.
This can also be done with the formation of chapters in all towns and barrios
in Pampanga and Tarlac.
Initiation of neophytes:
The following is a ceremony held for those
being admitted to the organization:
The life-size dummies of a lion and a tiger
are placed before a neophyte. At the sound
of a whistle, the neophyte starts striking
(kicking, punching, etc.) the dummies as
hard as he can. Then, he beats his chest
and bellows, "Qng leon o tigre, e cu tatacut,
queca pa?!! A damsel playing the role of
Mariang Sinucuan would then put a lei
around his neck to the cheerful, choral
accompaniment of Atin Cu Pung Singsing or
O Caca, O Caca. The neophyte would then do a
few steps of the Basulto during the singing.
Then he is made to kneel before the master
of ceremonies (usually, the prexy)who would
dub him on both shoulders with a machete
(campilan) and say, "By virtue of the power
vested in me as president of the Kapampangan
Cultural Heritage Society, I pronounce you
a knight of the KCHS. Rise up my cabalen!"
Then, with the rites just finished, there
will be a luau-style fiesta complete with
lechon and all the trimmings. There will be
lots of well-known "lutung Kapampangan"
- all attesting to the cooking skill of the
Pampanguenos which have made their province
the culinary capital of the Philippines.
The following are areas in which one may
help in the promotion of our cultural
heritage:
1. language - dictionary, grammar,
phonetics
2.literature - poetry, fiction, folklore,
essays, prayers, zarzuelas,
curiros or comedias (either
written by you or by others)
3. music and arts - songs (folksongs e.g.,
basulto, polosa, etc. either
composed or written by you or
others), folkdances (e.g. basulto,
sapatya - perform them in public),
paintings or sculpture (by you or
by Kapampangan artists like Vicente
Manansala)
4. history and geography - historical accounts,
events, or landmarks, etc., maps,
places of interest, government,
famous historical figures (all
requiring a lot of research work
and substantiation)
5. people - profiles of Pampangans in sports,
competitions like beauty pageants,
and in entertainment (movies, t.v.,
records, etc.), famous Pampangans
in business, politics, religious
life, etc.
6. industries and products - articles on Kapampangan
industries and products (e.g., food,
furniture, star-lanterns, pottery,
rice and sugar, etc.)
Members should give moral support to fellow members
who are in pursuit of an endeavor, such as in
ongoing projects. Rivalry and jealousy should have
no place in the organization, and anyone who is
afflicted with crab mentality will be subject to
rehabilitation.
One way to show your loyalty to Pampanga,
our province, is to join a humanitarian mission
which may be medical, economic or educational
in nature. In 1998, the Aguman Capampangan of the Northwest,
in a joint venture with the World Medical Relief Inc.,
captured the imagination of the Filipino
community in Portland when it brought $64,000 worth of
medicine to three puericulture centers
in Pampanga and distributed it to the needy. Then again,
in December 2000, they did the same thing
while covering more towns and provinces, and
bringing more medicine than before, and for
which they got community awards.
This makes them qualify for membership in the
KCHS.
(Note: KCHS has changed. It is now merged with Akademyang
Kapampangan USA. - Oct. 28, 2001.) AKUSA or AKKAPUSA became Akademyang
Kapampangan International or AKKAPI or AKI- Jan. 31, 2005) (Note: AKKAPI
was dropped, and the members regrouped themselves, formed an entirely
different one association and which adopted the name Academia Ning
Amanung Sisuan, Int'l.)

Oh, by the way, here is an excerpt of a
news item recently published in a Filipino
newspaper:
BOOK LAUNCHING AT CENTERPOINTE CLUB HOUSE
....A special highlight of the occasion was
the launching of the retiree's newly published
book, CLASSIC KAPAMPANGAN DICTIONARY. Copies
of it were sold like hot cakes at its
introductory price. It took the author four
years to finish the book which is noted for
its Webster-like features, and he finally
got it printed with all of his orders finished
right on his birthday, January 6th. He said,
"Kapampangan has been in dire need of a
dictionary. It is the only major language
in the Philippines that does not have a
dictionary for sale in the bookstores in
Manila. Now finally,I'm proud to tell my
fellow Pampanguenos that now they've got one
they can call their own. I'm sure all die-hard
cabalens will be getting one for themselves
not only to show their love for their native
tongue, but also because it is both a
collectors' item and an interesting conversation
piece." Because of his desire to promote the
Kapampangan language, the author has sent
all municipal libraries in Pampanga and Tarlac,
as well as some schools and colleges there
free copies. And while he is still looking for
bookshops to market it, the 270-page dictionary
can be ordered via e-mail (eiturla@aol.com)
at $19.99 per copy + postage and handling.
Compared to its version in the internet, it is
four times the size of it, has got a chapter
in grammar, one on verb conjugation, one on
colloquial expressions and idioms, Kapampangan
songs, poems and prayers, as well as political
maps that show area and populations. It is one
that all Kapampangans could truly call their own
- one they would be proud to have and show to
their non-Kapampangan friends. It is one that truly
enhances our identity as an ethno-linguistic group,
gives respectability to Kapampangan and boosts it
to the level other international languages are now
enjoying.

I truly love Pampanga
The land where I was born
The place where I have grown up
And woke up every morn.
But just to love my province
Is not enough at all
I must defend her honor
And oblige to her call.
