The Jupp Surname Resource Centre – One Year On

It’s now over a year since I launched the Jupp Surname Resource Centre and this is the 4th edition of the Newsletter. The site has attracted over 2300 visitors and new guestbook entries since June are Orla Jupp, Dax Jupp, Sandra Connor & Alice Fisher. Please remember I am always on the look out for interesting stories and websites for the newsletter. My own Jupp research hasn’t progressed that much in the last 12 months, but I eagerly await the release of the 1901 census next year to put some more leaves on the tree.

IGI Trees – Part 3 by John Gooch

My brother John has been looking at the many Jupp’s that are to be found on the IGI (International Genealogical Index). From that he has been able to piece together several descendant reports. Although these may look like ready made family trees, it is stressed that we have verified none of these details, and therefore any link that you may feel you have should be checked thoroughly.

To view the third of these reports follow the link below:

Descendants of William Jupp (b.1579 in Blackmans, Sussex)

Previous Report - Descendants of John Juppe (b.1671 Nuthurst, Sussex)
Previous Report - Descendants of Rycherd Jobe (b.1515 ?Horsham, Sussex)

Ellis Island

From 1892 to 1924, more than 22 million immigrants, passengers, and crew members came through Ellis Island and the Port of New York. The ship companies that transported these people kept detailed passenger lists, called ‘ship manifests’. These manifests have been transcribed and are now searchable online at
www.ellisisland.org

Below is an Indexed list of Jupp’s to be found on the site. By visiting the search page of the site you can find out further details of each passenger such as marital status, the name and details of the ship, and the port of departure.

Abney Park Cemetery
Abney Park is a large London Cemetery in Stoke Newington, originally laid out in 1840 as one of a group of new burial grounds designed to relieve pressure on over-crowded churchyards.

There are 10 Jupp’s buried at Abney Park Cemetery.

School Days

A great site I came across is
http://www.friendsreunited.co.uk .You can find your old schools, register and leave your details and see if any of your old classmates have registered. A general search on the Jupp name turned up about 35 entries.

Sussex FHG Tombstones & Burials Index

I recently purchased a list of Jupp’s from the Sussex Family History Group that are contained in their Tombstones & Burials Index. It contains various burial records and monumental inscriptions for over 280 Jupp’s. Due to licensing laws I cannot reproduce this list, but you can obtain this and many other records from their website at
http://www.sfhg.org.uk/

Jupp BMD & Census Records Update

Progress on transcribing the BMD Indexes continues. The databases on the
Records page now contains over 2000 names. Sadly the launch of the Census database is still a while away. It doesn’t yet contain enough material to warrant release, so again I request that if you have any census returns other than 1881 that contain Jupp’s, please send them to me at genealogy1@sprignall.freeserve.co.uk .My thanks go to Joyce Jupp & Vince Morley for their help so far.
