Scoop Feedback:

[Page draft submitted by 'Deadpool'.]

February, 2000... George Clooney has signed to reprise Frank Sinatra’s role as Danny Ocean in the remake of Ocean’s 11. Variety reports Warner Bros. also would like to make the updated film in the spirit of its predecessor and cast other top stars as Ocean's compatriots in the film. However, if the studio is serious about getting some further A-list talent to round out the ensemble, it might take a while to book everyone's schedules to match the start of filming. Director Soderbergh may film another picture in-between lining up his cast. The film could be ready to lens as early as this fall.

If Soderbergh does net some big stars, they're going to have to work for less than they usually get if they had headlined their own shows. WB has already indicated it cannot afford to pay the $15-20 million salaries that Pitt, Roberts, Depp or Myers may command on their own. Instead, they'll share in the revenue generated from the picture as well as the opportunity to star in a unique sort of picture. [Scoop provided by 'Deadpool'.]

March 16, 2000... The tagline that appears on November 1, '99 rewrite draft of Ocean's 11 reads ""In any other town, they'd be the bad guys." You can read a review of that rewrite draft (penned by Ted Griffin) at Stax's Flixburg website right now. "It will be interesting to see whether or not Soderbergh and his cast can pull this remake off; at the very least, Ted Griffin's rewrite gives them a decent chance at success," writes 'Stax' in his appraisal of the script.

Whether or not that particular tagline will wind up being used for the movie's promotional campaign is still unknown. ['Stax' has a nice little collection of reading material.]

May 23, 2000... "Jcool" writes in to tell us that Clooney has confirmed at Cannes that Bruce Willis is joining Pitt, Roberts and Wahlberg on this project. We checked out Jeffrey Wells' column over at Reel.com and also found that Scott Frank is going to take a pass at the screenplay, for added zing. [Originally appeared in Reel.com's Hollywood Confidential; reported by Jcool.]

Early afternoon, May 30, 2000... Okay, is there anyone in Hollywood who is not trying to get on board with this project? We ask you. Inside.com is reporting that you can look for Bill Murray to sign on shortly, while Warren Beatty and John Turturro have been mentioned as up for roles. Sheesh. Let's start a betting pool. [Originally appeared in Inside.com; reported by Widgett.]

Early evening, May 30, 2000... Late last week E! Online had a few tidbits to report on this bad boy, including a new name in talks that we hadn't heard before: Michael Douglas. In addition to that, they had a budget number: $15 million. That would be a bargain. [Originally appeared in E! Online; reported by Widgett.]

July 4, 2000... "Mark Wahlberg was on The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn, and he confirmed that he was going to be shooting with George Clooney again in January 2001." [Provided by Anonymous.]

September 13, 2000... Variety reports that actors Matt Damon and Ralph Fiennes have joined director Steven Soderbergh's Eleven production. Apparently, Damon hopped aboard after the departure of Mark Wahlberg. Also according to Variety the brother duo of "Owen and Luke Wilson were also connected to the project at one point, but they have dropped out to star in Rushmore director Wes Anderson's The Royal Tenenbaums. Filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen were rumoured to be stepping in for the Wilsons, but that won't likely happen."

[Appeared at Variety; reported by Reg.]

September 19, 2000... Dark Horizons shows us the way to the latest update on this classic remake. Horizons received a report from a scooper who reveals that the Unofficial Ocean's Eleven Homepage has the most recent gossip on casting developments and shooting locations. Here's a quick run-down of the unofficial happenings:

"Matt Damon is now pretty much officially signed on as Linus Zerga...Ewan McGregor is currently reading the script for the part of Basher Tarr while Ralph Fiennes is being offered the role of Terry Benedict. Don Cheadle is awaiting the latest rewrite before committing to the part of Roscoe Means, Sydney Pollack has been offered the part of Reuben Tishkoff (after Denniz Franz had to turn it down due to his NYPD Blue commitments), and the role of the Malloy brothers has yet to be cast. Shooting is aiming to begin in January in New Jersey, LA, Chicago, Florida, and Las Vegas with a release date of Christmas 2001 expected."

[Appeared at Dark Horizons; Unofficial Ocean's Eleven Homepage; reported by Reg.]

September 21, 2000... Another one of our web-slingers points us to a report over at E-Online that reveals Adam Arkin will be joing the Ocean's cast. The scooper also lets us know that Bruce Willis has walked the plank in search of a more profitable venture. Ewan McGregor is now indeed rumored to be jumping aboard. [Appeared at E-Online; thanks to Kirstin Thode; reported by Reg.]

November 6, 2000... Sources tell our newest scooper that Bernie Mac (Friday, The Original Kings of Comedy, Life) is in negotiations to join the cast of Ocean's Eleven. Is Mac moving in to possibly replace Don Cheadle? Maybe, maybe not. [Scooped by 'Regger13'.]

November 28, 2000... Add to the massive cast thus far assembled the names of Casey Affleck and Scott Caan. They'll be playing a pair of Mormon siblings who are the drivers for Danny Ocean's job. [Originally appeared in Hollywood Reporter.]

December 12, 2000... Thanks to our pal Chuck Schwartz (a.k.a. the "Cranky Critic"), we've learned the next confirmed cast member to Ocean's 11: Andy Garcia. "From the mouth of George Clooney, interviewed at a press junket for O Brother Where Art Thou? add Andy Garcia to the confirmed cast," writes Schwartz. "All the other names George mentioned as confirmed (Julia, Matt, Brad, Casey) are already on your list. We didn't discuss this with the Coens."

[We love Chuck.]

January 4, 2001... A call for SAG and AFTRA extras is over at the Back to Holding website's hotline. Just look for the section regarding Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. [Originally appeared on Back to Holding; site pointed out to us by Mr. Black.]

January 5, 2001... "Release date has been penciled in for Dec. 7th, 2001 as the film will be shooting until approx. June 15th." [Thanks be to Mr. Black.]

January 17, 2001... Variety has reported that Elliott Gould has joined the cast, playing the moneyman financing the heist frenzy. [Originally appeared in Variety.]

January 19, 2001... Andy Garcia has been added to the roster, playing Harry Benedict, owner of the casino and nemesis to Mr. Ocean. [Originally appeared in Hollywood Reporter.]

January 20, 2001... Playing catchup again, thanks to The Chuck, who sent in word from The Las Vegas Sun. Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis are going to box for the cameras in a scripted fight for the film. Reportedly it's going to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Area in Vegas in front of about 10,000 extras. But can somebody give us a date or something, if this is indeed happening? The Hollywood Reporter, also, is giving Monday, the 22nd, as the start date.

"Ocean's Eleven"

Director Steven Soderbergh, whose movies include Out of Sight, The Limey and Julia Roberts' new drama Erin Brockovich, has been signed for the remake of Ocean's Eleven. The original 1960 Las Vegas heist comedy was a showcase for Frank Sinatra and his Rat Pack friends. He's already signed up George Clooney to play the Sinatra role and Brad Pitt has said he'll take a huge pay cut to get on board. "I sent the screenplay to Julia for the Angie Dickinson role but I haven't heard back from her," says Soderbergh. Roberts insists she just teasing Soderbergh. "I have every intention of being in the film, but I'm going to make him work for my signature in retaliation for not giving me a role in his next movie Traffic," says Roberts. Traffic is based on a BBC mini-series about the repercussions of drug trafficking. Soderbergh has cast Catherine Zeta-Jones, who is to wed Michael Douglas. "I was devastated when I read that Catherine was pregnant, but she called and asked if there was any way she could remain in the film," says Soderbergh. "She plays the wife of an industrialist who used to be a huge drug runner. "It took nothing for the writers to make her character pregnant." Soderbergh has also cast Harrison Ford as one of the leading drug prosecutors. Info: Jam Movies

Release date is set for December 25th, 2001
